I'm actually looking at picking up my lift today, and I still need to figure out what I'm going to do
I've got a set of 31 BFGs to fit underneath, and I want about 3.5" to 4" overall. Originally, my plan was to do a 1" BL and a 2.5" BB because I'm on a tight budget, but then I ran across doing a junkyard lift. For those who don't know, it's essentially using Crown Vic Interceptor coil springs for the rear and ZJ coil springs for the front, then throwing in a rear track bar relocator and the zj coil spring isolators for safe measure. The total gain is roughly 3.5" and I could balance it out with a new set of four shocks.
But what do you guys think would be the better option? I'm looking to spend roughly no more then $400, and I don't have the option of saving because I NEED new tires and I'm not going to be running into some more money to save anytime soon with my current job
Anyone have experience with the junkyard lift or should I stick to the original BB/BL plan?

If you are tight on budget, I would stick to BB and BL. The reason is when you start touching 3.5 or more of suspension lift, you will need SYE and all the other good stuff that will cost you easily 700-800 bucks. If you don't get SYE, then you will have to spend some money on TC drop (counter productive) and maybe even MML.

If you only want to run 31's you don't need any lift, and if you just want some lift because you want some, pick up some used coil spacers for $50 and have at it. As mentioned above once you go past 3" it starts getting complicated and expensive real fast. And 31's with 4" of lift is gonna look kinda funny, imo...
i had the lift you're seeking back on my old jeep. its fine for a tight budget lift and will get the job done. i went with zj front and rear coils though, total was $75 for class/level A coils. i put in a rear relocation track bar bracket and drilled a hole about 3/4" to the right of the original hole on the front axle track bar bracket. i actually had a 2" BB on the front coils too bc my winch/bumper/brush guard weighed the springs down. you'll need new longer shocks though. total lift yielded 3.5" just enough that a SYE and new DS was not needed. to take care of any potential vibes, even though i had none when i did the lift, i did a 1" BL with PA pucks for $27 then bought G8 hardware for a total of $20, also did a 1" jks mml, with that there's no need to worry about dropping the tc and eliminates potential of any driveline vibes. hmm what else, oh for bumpstops i used 2 hockey pucks 1" height each and glued them with epoxy and drilled a hole in the middle of them and each front spring perch and secured them with nut/bolt/flatwashers for bumpstops. i think that was it, oh andddd at first i did the cheapo home made quick disco's, but with the lift height, i think its too much to keep your original links connected to the steering knuckle, so i drove disconnected front, and mostly rear too with no issues. sure a little bend on turns, but i never drive fast, and how could i have with a 2.5L, 33's and 4.11s? BUUTTTT i will say, i think 31's with 3.5" might look a little strange depending on how you outfit them.... but hey its your rig! GL
yea but I know if I'm stuffing 31s then I'm definitely going to have some rubbing issues going off-road. And where can I pick up a set of used coil spacers?
You gotta do some serious stuff disco'd to have a problem with 31's stock offroad. I never had a problem with mine, but I never disco'd.. 31's come stock on Rubi's, they aren't a problem with no lift what so ever. Check all the forum for sale sections for used spacers, folks take them off all the time to go bigger.... They're cheap, quick and easy, stock shocks are ok with them, and you'll have money for other goodies.
I'm stock with 31s on my current DD, 97 SE, only rubs at full lock cause I haven't adjusted the steering stops. I may add a 3/4" spacer in front to level it out and if I keep the jeep for a while I may go with a 1" bodylift so I can go with a flat skid and gain some more clearance being that I am only running 31s.
