any reason to not put on an exhaust cut out?

I rode around in my cousin's Defender 90 and his exhaust cutout is talking me into getting one for my Jeep. Any reason not to get one? I figure that I'd have to put it between the cat and the muffler because of the O2 sensor. I looked for some with a cable/manual adjuster but I didnt find any with 2 1/4 inch piping (which is what the 4.0's have right?) so I may just have to be fine with manually unbolting one (since I'm also too cheap to spend the money for the electric one). SO I've heard everyone say that mufflers dont help them with power/mileage, but I imagine that bypassing the muffler/axle bend there should be some help. Point of this post: anybody have reason to talk me out of it???

I've done my exhaust all different ways. It will make no difference whatsoever. But it might sound ok once in a while.

What type of offroading do you do where a louder exhaust will make your Jeep wheel better?

the idea is just power and mileage for around town. I feel that it has adequate power for wheeling.

A cutout will just make it louder, it won't help with mpg or performance. Not to mention it will just get everyone around your Jeep get pissed off at you for being so loud which will also just get you a ticket from any cop that hears you.

And can't they actually be bad? Something about compression? I don't know I heard that somewhere...

I broke my exhaust off on another car prior to the muffler a while back and it backfired like crazy until I had it fixed.

If you have an exhaust cutout, it will only SLIGHTLY gain you power up about... 4k or 5k rpms. We are talking 5hp here. Then, you look like a complete jackass is you have it open driving around town. Just leave it the exhaust how it is, you don't need the 3 feet of less back pressure.

Be prepared to ride at the end of the group every time you wheel with friends...... Just sayin'. No one wants to follow the guy with no muffler all day.
