I carry a 10 foot kayak on my Jeep all the time. I put two noodles underneath the kayak, and then I have three bungee chords that I wrap around the top of the kayak and pull through the window and connect to each other inside. I put two bungee chords through my kayak's front handle, and connect the other end of those bungees to the hood lift handle on the front. On the back end, I run two bungee chords, connected to the kayak handle, around the spare tire and connect them back around to the kayak handle. That system works well for me, and I've had no problem going 70 mph with the kayak on top.
