Anyone know the rules about tires sticking out from fenders in Virginia?

Newbie here. I decided to modify my rubicon that I got a few weeks ago. My 3.5 inch lift arrived and I've got 15 x 8 Mickey Thompson classic II and 33 x 12.5 ATZ's ready to go on.

Does anyone know what the rules are in Virginia about the wheels sticking out from the sides of the bumper and fender flares? I've seen a bunch driving around that look like what I expect mine to look like, and I'm using Adrenaline in Maryland to do the work...and they said they didn't know of a problem but admit they are in Maryland.

I saw a post on the forum of a guy in Oregon that was looking for wider fender flares to comply with his local laws.

Any suggestions? I asked a policeman at my kids' school and he said he didn't know anything about it.

Thanks

Charlie

id think anything over an 1in sticking out usually warrants large flares, if not the rule in VA i dont know, its nice to have ones that at least keep the mud and crap off the jeep

There's a bit of info on here if you read through the posts. Someone mentioned it is 3 inches. I am pretty sure your tire can stick out further than 1 inch. I am down in texas and my last jeep the tires were at least 2-3 inches out from the flares. Never had an issue, but I am sure it varies from state to state

Mine stick out about 1-2 inches and I haven't, in my admittedly short time with the Jeep (only 5 months), had any problems. From what others have said, and which I am beginning to agree, cops tend to ignore Wranglers for some reason. They must know they are slow! I wouldn't worry about it.

Btw I am in NOVA.

I don't have rear fenders on and I have been stopped by cops and didn't even mention the fender. Been driving like that for over a year.

I work for DMV, this is what we go by...
Maximum Width All Vehicles - 102 inches excluding mirrors and safety devices, not to exceed 3 inches on each side of vehicle
Maximum Height All Vehicles - 13 feet, 6 inches

Good to know.

I'm excited to get the modifications and post some pics.

My daughter did an ipad doodle of us in the jeep, I'll try to put it up. She and I love the jeep. We labored for 3 years on whether to get a JKU which would be way more practical, or to get a toy that she and I could play with. The toy won out and when we get the new wheels and take the hard top off we'll be set for summer.

Its been a while since I took the class for State Inspections here in Texas--but if I remember correctly, you measure from the furthest point protruding from the body(which would signify wider flares) and you were allowed 3in on drivers side and 6in on passenger side.
