the correct backspacing.. i run 3.75'' backspacing for 12.5'' tires.. gf runs 4'' for 13.5'' tires..

id run 3.75'' tires with a 1'' wheel spacers if i had to run a 14.5 tire..

i wouldnt want that wide of a tire especially in snow

Was wondering the same thing.

Also out of curiosity, what are the rules up there for flare coverage? (recently spoke w/ a policeman here in TX and he said we only have to have 1 lug of the tire covered...gonna find another cop and ask the same question)

That's the first time I've heard anything about tire coverage here. I always assumed (yeah..I know) that here in Texas there weren't any tire coverage laws?!?!

IMO 33x14.5 looks funny because they are too wide.

Thats why I wanna ask a couple more cops to see if the first was actually accurate.

Anybody know if there is a site or page out there that summarizes the various laws in the different states? I know here in TX it is hard to find the info...would be invaluable if a centralized summary sheet were generated.

ive had a cop stop me one time and tell me he liked my jeep =p

Doesnt super swamper make any kind and size of tire but the round kind? I think the claws were also available around that width.

One thing to keep in mind about a tire that wide is hydroplaning when the roads are covered in water from rain. I personally wouldn't even consider that wide of a tire if it's driven on the street too. Think of a tire that wide as a really good water ski when on a wet paved road.

'course when you are going big, there's not much choice on the width. I'm in the process of putting 42x14.5 Irok's on mine...hopefully won't be water skiing when it rains

Yep but he's only going with 33" tires where 12.50" is the more common width.

My swampers ride like a champ...70 -80 mph..no wobble, no nothing..just alot of noise from the tire itself

Thanks.

For roads, 12.5s are pretty tough. Here in chicago many roads curve because of the weight of the vehicles pushed them down so they end up wavy as in when you're driving thhere are "tracks" into the road. My 12.5s have hard time with that since it pulls and pushes them so you have to be exactly in the center of the "track".

my 12.5'' tires help me out sometimes.. when im driving my dads truck with 10.5'' tires, i seem to hit potholes a lot more.. the little bit wider tire makes it feel like i drive over the potholes instead of hitting them..

my dads truck even has coilovers =p

but in the winter they suck because they are wider.. same as in the rain..

I donno man, For me the "tracks" on the road annoy me a lot. I'm not talking a little tiny curve, i'm talking about 3" deep track on some places.
