Are all TJ's the same length?

I came across this site and I was wondering if anyone can confirm whether or not the length of the TJ changed from 1997-2006.

According to this site, the length changed from 151.2in in 1997 to 155.4in in 2000, to 154.9in in 2004. If this is actually the case, wouldn't that affect the fitting of certain parts, like the top?

Some people claim that the soft top will fit any 1997-2006 TJ though. I guess that's just a misconception?

They will fit, but they don't fit correctly, will make a lot of noise

Really? Because I have a soft top from a 99 on my 05 and the only difference I see is the material and color. The frame is identical. Soft tops are noisy anyway.

I've been mulling this over for a few years based on a couple of things. First is the roll bar padding was increased in thickness starting in 03 and the gasket on top of the windshield frame changed shape as well.

The thicker padding means the brackets on the back of the B pillar have to be taller to stick through it. If they are taller, the frame bows that attach to them "should not" be the same, but I've never been able to verify it in any fitment or stretching problems.

My soft top is quiet. I accidently bought 2 new tops for my 00 a few years ago and sold the other to a buddy that has an 05, it fit super tight, very hard to remove the windows, and flapped like hell

From what I gather, there is a small difference in the height of the top on 03-up for the extra clearance needed for the thicker roll bar padding and sound pods, but it's not enough to keep the tops from interchanging. The soft top bow brackets that mount to the roll bar are different for 03-up, but the frame hardware is the same from 97-06. I gather that the center bow is boosted up a bit to give that extra clearance.

A few years back, I had an 06 TJ and a 2000 hard top. I never got around to doing the wiring for the rear wiper/defogger, but the top fit on the Jeep. The only issue being that the top would rattle on the top of the roll bar and sound pods. There was less than 1/4" of space between the two. Stuffing an old towel in there fixed that.

I must have a special factory freak Jeep then because I just dont see the difference. The 05 top sits in the same exact position as the 99 on mine. Still have the same clearance above soundbar. Doesnt flap. I never changed roll bar brackets, the bows on the 99 top slid rid on the the 05 rollbar brackets. Maybe Im just crazy.

I bought a best top sail cloth top for my 98 sport

The top was 2-3" longer,possibly 4"
I had to fold the top up and bolt it to the header bar to pick up the slack

I was told by best top that something must be wrong with my Jeep

If jeeps are inface different lenths(besides the lj) than that explains in

I have a 03 TJ. Bought a 01 top (frame/fabric) and it fit fine. I replaced the 01 fabric with 04 and it fits fine.
