Honest answers guys... I have a nice system in my jeep and run two different subs at any given time. One sub is a 100$ MTX, the other a $300 jl 10w3v3. Both subs are run off an alpine at 400 watts rms(2ohm). The mtx has max power of 500 watt, the jl 1000. Both subs are in enclosed boxes and both sound excellent. Can u guys justify the extra couple of hundred dollars for the more expensive sub? I can tell a difference when the volume is up so high that the earth shakes but when just loud, they sound very similar. I could lie to my friends about which sub I'm running, and I don't think they could tell. Have u guys experimented much with the sound in your jeeps? I also run both boxes downward firing. The jl does recover slightly quicker than the mtx but the average ear would not hear it. A jeep with a bad Ass stereo is hard to beat.
One more note, the mtx is custom fit to fit behind back seat and the jl is built to jl audio's specs.
Previously, both subs were powered by a hot running jl audio I believe mj-500 or something like that. Same difference, running two different class d mono block amps...

If they sound similar, why spend the extra money and put in expensive subs into a car that doesn't have the best security.

That is my thought as well. Just having a sub and amp makes a huge difference, but why risk anything too expensive when all there is for protection are zippers lol
