Oh that is unfortunate (I must have misread elsewhere). How's the reputation on the 4-speed?? I hope it's not the same thing that crapped out in all the WJ's from that time...
I don't believe the WJs used the same transmission but I guess it's possible if the WJ had the 4.0L engine. The 4-speed automatic's reputation is not as renowned as the 3-speed's is. That isn't to say it's failure-prone, mine has over 87K miles on it, but people just aren't as happy with it... especially due to its extra-steep overdrive ratio that makes extra-low axle gearing the way to go.
I have built 5 Jeeps in the last 20 years and five of them were manual transmission Jeeps and I loved them all...now I have a 1999 TJ with a 32RH auto and it is by far my favorite. I never knew what I was missing all these years. No, I'm not running anything overly fancy either; Lift, 35 inch tires, Detroit lockers front and rear. It just works well. In everything. :dance:
