Automatic Transmission ??

Silly question but it just dawned on me I can't remember if I've ever changed the transmission fluid in my 97 Sahara. Does anybody know if the stuff "goes bad" ?

Everything is working fine but I guess it would be pretty gradual if it were slowly ruining the transmission.

Its suposto last for 30,000 miles according to maintenance schedule "A" under normal driving conditions but it sais if you take it offroad often you should change it every 12,000 miles(maintenance schedule "B") but I change mine every other time I change my engine oil and I can really tell a difference that it runs alot better afterwards. Its alot more smooth and runs better early in the morning when its cold.

Oh yeah it can definitely go bad. Same thing happens to ATF that happens to motor oil. If you check it and smell a burnt smell or your fluid comes out any color other than the bright red it went in as, then it's time to change it. Fluid starvation and over extended fluid life are two of the biggest killers to auto's.

Yup it will go bad and turn to sludge. Try to change it every 30k or 10th oil change.

Damn. Ok thanks guys. I hope it hasn't shortened the life of the transmission too much.

How much does the servicing cost (including filter)?

I did the water pump and thermostat not too long ago and I'm sure I could do it but now the weather has turned bad and I have no garage .

Hell I'm not 100% sure but I think I've seen couplons for like 60 bucks for a complete flush, filter, and re-fill.

The Auto In My 97 Tj 4.0 Is Tuff As Hell I Drowned Mine In Water To Where The Water/trany Fluid Was Blowing Out The Dip Stick Tube. I Still Drove It Off The Trail And Home. Im Still Trying To Cycle The Fluid/water Out Of It
