Axle from another Jeep (MJ)

Hello
I know i've been asking a lot of axle questions but I just want to get it right...
My grandfather had a MJ (Jeep Comanche) and was going to give it to me for graduation but I decided to wait and go for a TJ () so he then gave it to my Uncle because he has 3 daughters... () and he doesn't have money for a truck. Now that they went off to college, I don't think he needs the Comanche anymore. Does anyone know what the stock axles are in a 1986 Jeep Comanche?? I might take it and swap it out if it's worth it.. I heard it was a Dana44, if so, i'm in.

Any advice will help
And once again, sorry for all the axle questions. I just want to get it right...

Thanks.
Mike

some came w/ d44, but also many were d35's.

if the mj is in half way decent shape, don't part it out.

I was planning on putting my d35 in the mj and putting the d44 (if it has it) in my tj... Is that a bad idea??

just have to weld brackets for 44 and remove brackets for d35, add spring holders etc...

Yes, please don't part it out, especially if it has a 4.0... Those are too rare, and too awesome to junk.

If I had a nice MJ to put money into, I would take it over the Wrangler honestly.

Yeah I don't think I will. I might just use it for a pickup truck with the girlfriend or something whenever I leave for college and just keep the wrangler at my parent's so they can take care of it and do whatever and use the MJ to cruise. Probably not a good long time travel vehicle though but I like it.

It might have 180k something miles?? I'm not sure. It looks like it's in great shape. I love the look of it, learned how to drive stick with it. I don't have any pictures of it because I hardly ever go up there, only for Thanksgiving and 4th of July, but next time I see i'll take a few. It does have a 4.0L I believe, and my grandfather was a mechanical engineer so he has done some stuff to it. I love it. lol

Sorry it's a Comanche Cheif, so in many it came with the 44 and 4.0L engine.

i love my mj as much as any wrangler i owned or own. great trucks, and it gets better mpg than my xj. i drive my mj more than my nice xj, definately keep it around. my mj has cruise and gets 18-19 mpg in the city, i haven't gone on a long enough trip to get hwy mpg, but i guarantee it will get at least 25.

lets see some pics.

Every MJ I see around here is rusted out, converted to a mexican work truck, or both.
