Question Axle swap question?

I have a 2000 wrangler 4.0 6in lift on 35s. My question is about donor axles. My good friend owns a salvage yard/junk car buying outfit. What axles would you recommend him to keep an eye out for? I am a moderate trail guy that deals with the snow every winter. I don't need the best axle in the world; however i don't want to be a poser and do want a capable drive train if its called on. Ill only be paying for the weight of the axles, not the price for what one would typically run. I'm looking for a strong, yet easy as possible mix. I'm a capable fabricator with tools. I just need an experienced guy to point me in the right direction. Oh! disk breaks are a must. Get over it if this topic has been warn thin, i couldn't find the info i was looking for in my five min attention span.

I'm looking for the same. Did research and I think I'm going with the 8.8.

thanks man! ok forgive my ignorance, the 8.8 is the rear only right? if so what about the front? also do you happen to know what year? The reason i ask is because my guy will tell me if he gets a make and model, but hes not going to go looking under it for me. he will just say "ive got that car/suv/truck, come take a look".

You have a Low Pinion Dana 30 Front.. It' is fine up to 35's and if you don't do any hard rock crawling it's good locked with 35's as well..

If you read that post on the TJ forum, I believe a 97 or newer Ford Explorer is the best option. With luck you can get one with the posi already in it and I also found you can tighten the clutches in that posi to give you more of a solid locker and it should hold perfect with 35's

Your d30 should be ok... You could upgrade to a high pinion d30 out of a Cherokee its a direct bolt on except for the gears.

I have a d35 with the upgraded 30 spline axle shafts ARB locker and 4.56 gearing. It is a four banger. but why does everyone think its such a terrible axle? I have put a serious beating on mine and no troubles yet.

sounds like im looking for an 8.8 out of a 97+exploder and a high output from a Cherokee. Do you know the year for the Cherokee?

[QUOTE=somis;1938933]I have a d35 with the upgraded 30 spline axle shafts ARB locker and 4.56 gearing. It is a four banger. but why does everyone think its such a terrible axle? I dont have much jeep thrashing under my belt yet but i know how to break a d44 in a truck with ease. In four low bouncing around slipping with sudden traction will find a weakness. The 4.0 has plenty of nutz to break a 35, its just a matter of not reaching that limmit that keeps it in one piece. I could drive forever with this 35 but i want the confidence of a stronger axle and pig and i want to push it more True enough "i have not broke it" but i can get a stronger axle installed for basically nothing. So its a no brainier for me. When and if it breaks, i want to think "how the heck did i do that?" not "why the hell didn't i do that" Idono to each their own man, and if ur happy who gives a rip what others say.
