A 44 or 8.8 rear will be good. However, on the 44's if see how the tubes stack up. are they just stock TJ axle size with upgrade shafts and other new parts? If so and your in the rocks a great deal the 8.8 with bigger than ticker tubes might be best for you. As for the front the HP30 it is on pair and some will say slightly better than a LP dana 44 in the ring and pinion area. You can add 30 splines shafts or upgraded 27 splines( better chance of finding someone on trail with a replacement 27 spline shaft than a 30 spline) and run 35's.

What is your current rear axle? For 35" tires max, you really don't need to spend a lot of $$$ for aftermarket axles.

For the prices I've seen I would go with the ecgs 8.8.

for 35s an alloyed HP30 from an XJ and a 8,8 or D44 will work for you just fine with a 35in tire

I am not feeling too positive about G2 right now. About 2 months ago I had a G2 Dana 44 with Detroit truetrac professionally installed. After about 300 miles the passenger side axle seal started to leak. I took it back to the installer (a first class shop) and they found that G2 had not polished the surface and the rough surface ate the seal.

The shop turned and polished both axle and replaced the seals. They did not charge me but they are having a hard time getting G2 to reimburse them. The shop figures they are probably going to have to eat the labor at least.

Anyone considering G2 should be aware of this.

Spending that much money on a front d44 that is hardly an upgrade would make me sick.

For about the same price you could get an HPD30 with new ball joints, Superior chromo 30 spline kit, 30 spline arb, 4.88 gears, HD lower control arm mounts, new unit bearings, u-bolt yoke, and knuckles.

Plus of course the fact that you have a high pinion axle.

G2's are gonna cost too much. The other option would be cheaper.

The HP D30 out of a Cherokee is a very nice choice for a front axle. That it runs a reverse cut ring & pinion makes its gears stronger than the OE OP D30 axle's ring & pinion gears is real nice. That it raises the driveshaft up higher away from trail obstacles is even nicer. HP D30 axles are a common upgrade for TJs that see really tough trails and they hold up real nicely to 35" tires and a locker.

For the rear, I'd go with either a used Dana 44 out of a TJ as I did years ago, a Super 35 kit from (only) Superior Axle, or a Ford 8.8 axle. Personally I prefer a used Dana 44 from a TJ to the other two choices since a Ford 8.8 isn't as inexpensive or as easy to install as many claim.

There are such things as HPD44's and remember though that the HPD30 is limited to 4.88 gears. Also your still running d30 thickness axle shafts.

But with 35's the hpd30 will do fine. The XJ HPD30 will be the easiest axle swap for the front. A TJ D44 would be the easiest swap for the rear but finding one could be a problem. The jeeps at my pick-in-pull are old and completely stripped. I never see a "newer" one. Finding a wrecked unlimited would be your fastest bet because they all came with d44 rears. But if your spending money get an aftermarket rear d44 with thicker tubes than the jeep ones(same thickness as the d35s) or a ford 8.8

Ford 8.8's are only a cheap option for leaf sprung vehicles as you can cut off the spring mount and reweld it back on for use in a XJ,YJ,CJ for super cheap. For our TJ's linked and coil sprung suspension it costs the same as any other axle swap as you need all new mounts and all that welding. I think that the TJ guys look in the YJ section to much when it comes to the 8.8 and think it will be a super easy/cheap swap for them too.

true, but an 8.8 is the strongest of the 3 hands down. And if your swap includes welding, why not choose the best candidate?
