Axles or Armor+Other Mods

I'm really torn right now, I've been saving up for some time to fully rebuild (bearings, seals) my front/rear axles (HPD30/D44), regear to 4.88 install chromoly shafts, and lock both front/rear with ARB air lockers. The entire setup with labor will run me about $4500 +/- some goodies.

I have about $5000 saved up and I'm having second thoughts, I could do a SLEW of other smaller mods with this kind of money. I priced out a bunch of other mods (steering skid, rock sliders, t-case skid, engine skid, 3 pair of control arms to finish my set) for under $2500. This would leave me plenty to play with afterwards...

I know this could warrant 1,000 answers but what would you guys do? I really want lockers so I can play on the rocks, 4.88 so I can go to 35's soon (33s right now) but I won't have any armor for the time being. I was debating on auto locking the rear for now and then armoring up while saving all over again for the axle overhauls which would take me the better part of a year. Opinions?

I would go with the armor/control arms before redoing the axles..33's on a 3.5" lift is good enough by itself to get around most places and the armor will keep everything else from being ripped/dented/broken off while wheeling...Id also look into doing some sort of cage before doing the axles too...

what main mods do you have done to your jeep as is?
I have the ARB in my rear and i have used it few times but i have never absolutely needed it. Lots of guys swear by them front and rear when you are doing the extreme of the extreme, but a jeep with a 3" lift and 31" tires with a tummy tuck in 4lo will do much more than people imagine

I would do the axles first, they have to be done all at once, all the armor and other things can be done over time in pieces...

I agree with what you just said, axles are one big lump but I could buy armor piece by piece

Current major mods I can think of:
3" (netted 4.25") AEV coils
OME long travel sport shocks
33x12.5r15 Mickey Thompson MTZ
Anti rock front swaybar
JKS rear swaybar links
Stock track bars for now
Rear track bar relocation bracket
Metalcloak frame built bumper with full stinger and warn M8000 winch
ARB recovery kit
Groundpounderfab rear bumper and tire carrier
Rokmen lower rear control arms

Probably more but those are the more relevant mods.

I agree on the axles as well, since you have the money saved up go for it. It's not something you can do a bit at a time like the other stuff. I recently made a similar decision.

Thanks for the reassurance guys

I could easily have another $5000+ by this time next year, not sure if I'd want to wait that long because I'm dying to do more rock wheeling than the mud/woods I've been doing. I hope to hit up RC this summer at least once or twice
