Baby Seats for Wrangler?

Hello all,
just found out that the GF is pregnant.
The Jeep right now is our only vehicle so I am getting a bit worried about safety & baby seats. I DEFINITELY dont want to get rid of the jeep so my question is...
Has anyone had any problems/safety concerns with an infant in a Jeep? Also what type of baby seats are available out there that are safe and easy to "install" in the back seat of the Wrangler (specific name/types would be appreciated)

Thanks

I had my kid in both the Tj and Yj. We ran a graco infant carrier, which also fits in the graco single stroller. Then when she got older the britax seat. They didn't ride a lot in the Wranglers, but it will work.

Hope ur jeep is stock. Or at least still has a smooth suspension. I would take my son in the jeep till he was 6 months in fear of shaken baby syndrome. Most carriers fit just fine. Toddler firs way better than infant

The beat option is to take the jeep to babies r us and they will let you try the display models to see what fits best. What year is your jeep? If it has the LATCH system, it is a ton easier to install and take out. Let me know when you get one and I'll tell you some tips to make sure it is in properly.

Thanks all for the advice.

No latch, just seatbelts. I have a 2002 Sahara with a 2' lift and fortunately I just received some new OME shocks that are going to be installed in a few weeks so that should lighten the ride, although its not sooo bad right now.

I live overseas so I dont have the luxury of trying seats out, I will need to order them online from Amazon or Walmart/Target.

I was just in a similar situation, my wife and I had our first 4 months ago and my '99 TJ is my DD. I've got 5.5 lift, 35" Tires and it's all worked out fine. The only thing I would trade for is a 4 Door Wrangler with the same set up! : )

The main thing to focus on imo is to get one of the seats that's also a carrier. You can get in one time, secure the base, lock it in place and then from there on out you just make sure it clicks in place. The angle of the rear seat helps out a lot too since we don't have the car seat anchors.

Good luck and congrats!

The rear facing seat is the hardest to fit, almost all of the forward facing fit fine. We have the infant Graco snug ride and just have to pull the passenger seat up slightly to fit. I can't remember the convertible seat that fit, but we could only find one that fit with some room to spare! I'll try and fund out which that was to let you know.
Also, just remember to pull your belt out all the way to lock it prior to belting in the seat.
Also, I believe the dealer should put one latch system in for free of it was not installed prior. At least over here in the US, hopefully over there too!

I carry twins in mine with no problems. I do have to slide my seat fwd a bit...minor inconvenience when the alternative is sell it for a minvan

We use Graco Snugrides...which I don't think are the smallest by any means, but have worked out for us. I'm 6'3" so I generally have the seat all the way back. I don't have to slide the seat far so I've never been uncomfortable driving.
By the way, so far the babies have loved it!
The one thing you might be concerned about is getting all the crap you need in there if you take a trip. There is no way we can take the jeep on a road trip. Can't even get the stroller in let alone a pack n play, diaper bag, etc etc etc. We have to take the land rover for trips (BOO!)...that's been hardest part, normally the Jeep would be the beach trip vehicle

One other thing is when they babies are in the car, you can't exactly have the top down or windows off when your going 70 down the interstate...also been tough

We do child seat installs at the FD, during our class they told us that. Now this has been 6 years, but I asked a guy that took it few years ago and said they are still doing it.

Congrats on the baby.

For the first 6 months or so, your carrier/seat will have the baby laying down or reclined. The hard part is until 18 months when they are sitting up but don't have really strong neck muscles to support their large heads while being thrashed around in the back of the Jeep. For this reason, our son only rode in mom's car until he was almost 2 and was able to handle the bumpy Jeep ride.

Good luck!

I think my 06 has the latch hooks on the bottom of the seat back. My first is due in 8 days:eek Most of the time we'll have the baby in the wifes car, but there will be times where i will need to take the baby in the jeep or mustang. Congrats on the kid!

Congrats!!! Mine is 13 months and loves it in the jeep. I take the windows out and leave the top up. I use the Evenflo Symphany 65, similar to the Graco everyones been commenting on. But deffinitly with the infant carrier system you should have little issues. Just spend the extra $$$$ and get a quality product. As for strollers once the baby gets alittle bigger or if you get a compatible infant carrier, I found the Baby Jogger City Mini folds up with one hand to about the size of a large pizza box. Got some saddle bags for the baby stuff from Skip Hop and good to go. Fits in back of the TJ very nicely. Good luck.

Is that for the latch or the tether? I know on my 06 the latch is on the seat and the tether points are on the floor. They are two different uses so it's important to know which is which.

Just thought I'd add this in but you might want to look at walmart they have JEEP stuff for the babys like car seats strollers and booster seats! Even a manly jeep diaper bag that's pretty cool looking and I believe there made by a good company!! Oh and congrats on your baby bro!!

Congratulations! I didn't have my Jeep when my daughter was born but we now have a forward facing one (she was 2 in these pics). She loves going on what we call a safari (it doesn't matter where we go, it's always a safari). You will have a lot to look forward to!
