Back bumpers w/ hitches

I see some back bumpers with hitches but they are not rated for towing... But have heard people still tow with them... Anyone have this experience and tow with out any problems... I dont plan on towing Anything heavier then a 14 foot Jon boat and trailer.

I've got a smittybuilt & tow a 14 foot flat bottom with no problems. Also tow a 4'x8' trailer with 2' sides loaded with fire wood.

Some bumpers don't say they are tow rated because that would open up the manufacturer for damages if anything happened. That doesn't mean they aren't safe to tow with.

I have this rear bumper. Its a Pro Comp rear bumper and it says its rated for 2000lbs and for bike racks. If you do frame tie-ins and and a brace across the top on this rear bumper it can tow a lot more.

The issue is where the bumpers bolt onto. They bolt onto that flimsy sheet metal back end so if you use tie-ins that'll help out a lot with any bumper.

I tow a 18 foot Ranger bass boat with my Smittybuilt, just like the one in the post above mine, Its says not rated for towing, It works ok and hasn't fallen off Yet. I would never tow the car trailor or the wakeboard boat with it. my toung weight on the bass boat is like 100#s and I can stand on the toung and jump up and down it flexes a bit but I weigh 230.

This was my next question to you guys. Do you have to modify it At all?... And sorry I'm not sure what tie-ins are?

I tow my motorcycle with my LoD rear bumper and I have no issues with it! The only thing is the jeep wrangler is a pig when it comes to towing.

These are what frame tie-ins are JcrOffroad, Inc. Wrangler Rear Bumper Frame Tie-in (TJ YJ CJ) They make it so the bumper is bolted to the frame instead of just relying on that thin sheet metal.

But just bolt some angle iron to the top of the bumper closest to the body. As GrimmJeeper said as he jumps on the tunge the bumper flexes a bit. Add the angle iron and it will stop that and make it stronger.

But over all The only thing you really should do is all the frame tie-ins.

I have a Dirtworx rear bumper, and tow with it. It does fine. I only tow a small utility trailer, but I've had it loaded to near 2500 lbs a couple of times.
**Get frame tie-ins when you get your bumper.**

Edit: sorry, didn't see the previous post about tie-ins LoL

Has anyone towed a tent trailer with their Jeep?
I was hoping to do that when I get my Jeep.

Tent trailers can be less than 1000 lbs, or over 2500 lbs. Do you already have your tent trailer, or know which one you are going to get? Towing 1000 lbs is a breeze. Hook up to a 3k trailer though, and you'll know it's there! Plus, that 3000lbs is approaching the GVW of a Jeep, and wouldn't be very safe to pull with a Wrangler.

I don't have one yet, but that was the plan.
I haven't picked one out yet either, I just know it has to have a toilet in it (as requested by the wife)

I have this bumper Pro Comp Suspension Part 66168 - Jeep Crawler Rear Bumper
Just yesterday i towed a fairly large utility trailer loaded with 3 kayaks and around 150 pounds of gear with no problems at all. I'm pretty sure that it's the same thing as the smittybilt one. The only thing i'm going to do is add some frame tie-ins and possibly some safety chain points just for a little peace of mind while i'm doing 50 mph down the road. For the price you can't beat it,Looks great too!

The lawyers got involved so many bumpers that used to be rated for towing no longer are. The Olympic Rock bumper I had on my previous TJ was rated to tow 2000 lbs. when I bought it but the very same bumper is no longer rated to tow. Frigging lawyers.

Its the gloss. This the one i got. Amazon.com: Explorer Pro Comp 66168 Black Bumper with D-Ring: Automotive

It will dull to a flat black. If your worried about it just shoot it with some rattle can bed liner.

I also sprayed the top of mine with bed liner cause i was getting tired of standing on it and slipping off.

Nope. I love amazon! Never have had an issue when dealing with amazon. I did use their Free super saver shipping so it takes longer. It took about 6-8 days but shipping was free. For something that heavy shipping is a lot.

This is how is was shipped to me.
