I'm looking for new rims for the winter time. The rims I have now required me to use spyder trax adapters. What is your opinion on adapters and how they would hold up in off road conditions?

Next question is about backspacing, if I get new wheels I'll be going back to my stock offset so the wheels will come in an 1.25 inches. I have 17x9 wheels and 33x12.5x17 tires. What kind of back spacing will I need to get no tire rub?

Thank You for any help! :D

I believe for a 33" tire you're going to need about 4.25" to 3.5" backspacing to prevent rub. Or you could tack weld some larger steering stops onto the current ones to prevent the wheel from turning too far but I think that is counter productive as you lose some of your turning radius.

I measured my backspacing and got 4inches... I'm assuming they're really 4.5 since the wheels I have with the specs only came with 4.5 back spacing. Measured it from the back of the wheel that meets flush with the adapters to the edge of the rim.

479402MT (Classic Lock Mickey Thompson)
17x9
4-1/2 backspacing
5-5.5 bolt circle

As is the tires hangs out 5 inches or so( If I remove the adapters the hang will only be 4 inches.) .... I'd like to cut that at least in half to about 2-3 inches no tire rub....I really don't want to shave my tires. Any suggestions on types of rims?? Cheap Black rims would be fine for now since I live in Wisconsin and the snow is going to hit soon. I don't trust adapters for off road use, it doesn't seem right to me!

Any suggestions will be much appreciated! Thanks

5" of backspacing for 12.5" wide tires is too much which would position the tires too close to various parts of the suspension. 4.5" is the absolute most BS you can have for 12.5" tires and even that will cause the inside sidewalls to rub when the steering wheel is turned all the way left or right. 4.25" is pretty optimal for any 12.5" wide tire with as little as 3.75" being acceptable.
