backspacing question

i have a set of 35 12.50/15 tires and 5.5 inches of lift on my tj and i was wondering whats the most backspacing i can have and still not have my tires rubbing on the inside? i ask this because i dont like the way my tires stick out so much with the rims i have. and yes i wheel so my axel does alot of articulating. thanks

4'' due to the width of the tire. Less backspacing with a 12.5'' wide tire and you'll be rubbing on the frame/lower control arms when turning.

Also there is only about 8 users on this time of night.

He didn't say they rubbed. He's just looking for the most amount of backspacing on a wheel before rubbing with a 12.5 wide tire..

sounds like he is looking to spend a bunch of money o n new wheels to acheive the same product.....if he wheel that rig on off camber trails he would appreciate the wider stance but the malls have been good about their off camber parking spots so he should be good

Well to each his own. Not everyone wheels their jeeps like the next person.

I prefer the wider stance for stability also. Which is why I run 3.25'' bs.
But if he prefers a narrower track width let him go for it.

i think there 3.75 they stick out really far though. i think i migh stick with the same back spacing and go with a 8 in wide rim.

Switching to a 8'' wheel from a 10'' will suck the sidewalls in about and inch per tire. Which will help you narrow it a little in looks. But wont be all that noticeable.

I'm guessing stock flares? If so, you can also get wider flares to cover the tires more or completely. Even without switching out your wheels. There are several companies to pick flares from with different styles.

Any more questions just ask away.

i am surprised that you actually wheel and you want to be narrower...doesnt matter but i went full width axles to be more stable and you are goin narrower so im thrown for a loop

3'' flare with the tubes I'm assuming or no flare? This is why it looks like your tires stick out so much but they really don't.

If you still want to suck the tires in closer your best bet is most likely going to be a 15x8 with a 4'' BS. other than that....tires with less width.

With a narrower tire you can run even less BS but will be pretty tipsy with 35's and up.

That would be why your tires look like they stick out so far.

Really though you are running a set up that alot of jeepers run. With no flares you get the illusion that your track is wider than others but it really isn't.

You can still also get steel tube flares for the rear and weld tube flares onto your front tube fenders also for some tire coverage.

Alot of tube fenders with flares are weld to a product to add the flare.

Just another option.
