Ball joint help!!!

Hey guys i need help just got a call from garage that my jeep wont pass inspection. Because there is play in my ball joints. They said it would cost $700+ i cant afford thT!!! I need help. How hard is it to replace them and about how much if i can get a friend to help. Any write ups??? PLEASE HELP!!! thanks

Its not overly hard if you have a press. If you dont have a press, you can rent them from most autopart stores. I rented one from autozone. Since tool rentals are basically free (assuming you return the tool in working order), the main cost comes from your joints. Ball joints can run you anywhere from 10-90 dollars a joint (roughly) depending on what you go with.

That's expensive! I got a quote this past week to do my front left ball joints and a new exhuast for 140 installed that's with the parts and labor included

Thanks for the replies guys! Big help. Checked out the sites and my buddy and i are going to tackle it this weekend.

4 ball joints $122 @ auto zone with lifetime warranty
2 cases of favorite beer $55
Total $177

Weekend learning something new PRICELESS! lol

Make sure you get the extra adapters for the ball press. Will take you 3-5 hours depending on how much prior knowledge and how much rust you got. Pick up some PB Blaster and spray the bolts once a day till you start it. Also pick up some sand paper and anti-seaze lube for reinstalling the unit bearing and rotor.

Almost forgot. One tool most people don't have that you will need is a 13mm 12 point socket for the 3 unit bearing bolts.
