Ive got a red top optima. Had it for about a year and it been starting my jeep in -10 degree weather all winter without a bit of hesitation. Kinda pricey but you do get what you pay for. It has a 6 year warranty so I figured it was worth the extra money.

The last battery I would run now is an Optima, and that's after having run three of them... two Yellow Tops and one Blue Top. All three failed prematurely. Their quality took a nose dive after they were bought out by Johnson Controls and their manufacturing was moved to Mexico.

The battery I'd run is the superb Sears Diehard Platinum, which is made for them by Odyssey who makes mil-spec batteries for the military. I had one in my last TJ and it was great, for all of the three months I owned it until that TJ was stolen. I'm saving my $$$ for a new Diehard Platinum for my new '04 replacment TJ.

Not quite but close, but you get what you pay for. The Optima, that I now personally believe has become little better than junk, is not much less expensive than the Diehard Platinum is.

What Jerry said. Odyssey, who makes the Diehard platinum, is best in the business. We've been running Odyssey for years in dragsters with total loss ignitions and severe duty cycles. They've been perfect. Especially if you occasionally run a winch and have severe duty cycles, Odyssey/Diehard is worth the price. You do get what you pay for.

Interesting that you'd think that. I've used 40 or 50 of them (home / work / ranch / etc) over the years and never had a problem. Only headache I had was with one that was left on the ground for about 2 years and forgotten about. It had a hard time holding a charge for more than a month or so.

My rig has a red and a yellow top in it right now.

Optima used to have a great reputation. Used to.

I have to agree with Jerry on this. Way back in the day Optimas used to be the best (used to compete car audio way back in the day and thats all I used). However as Jerry said they have gone down hill. I had to get rid of two yellow tops due to premature failure and once they die there is no bringing them back. I have since gone with a Platinum and havnt looked back.
