Battery cable, terminal replacement help!

My 98 has a lot of corrosion on the battery terminals and I figured Id replace the cables, minimum terminals, when I put in my new battery. I searched far and wide and just can't seem to find any good info.

The guys at autozone didn't know what to make of the 2 wires running to each battery post. All the terminals they sell hold one wire. When does my jeep have two black and two red coming from the battery? Red I think goes to the fuse box and starter??? Can I replace the terminals with ones at an auto part store? What about the cables? Easy to replace? If so any instruction would be nice.

All started with hooking up my KC lights and decided it was time to do this!

I asked the same question awhile back and never really got any answers back, but the two reds one comes from the Alt and the other goes to the fuse, relay box and the two blacks are the grounds one to the engine and the other is to body on the firewall.
I know you can get a replacement harness from a dealership but I have yet to find out how much because when ever you look online any of the websites don't give you a discription on it so you really don't know if that is the part you are looking for.

Hope this helps some.

ya you can, its pretty easy just wont look as good as putting in a new harness, i just did mine, the negative one you can just buy a whole new cable and run it down to where it grounds to the block, the positive you just need to take both wires, strip them about 1" long and split each one like a Y and put it around the bolts that clamp down the terminal, make sure to use some battery terminal grease, ill try and get a pic, 1min

here it is, the red stuff on mine is the grease, could have done a better job stripping the wires but all i had was a dull as* pocket knife lol

Before replacing the connectors, try thoroughly wire brushing them first. Auto parts stores have very inexpensive wire battery brushes specifically made for this purpose. Such kits have a male brush for cleaning the connector itself and a female brush for cleaning the battery posts. The typical price for a battery brush kit is only $3-4 and they work very well. I've saved every battery connector I have ever owned with nothing more than a battery brush kit.

When you have a choice, buy American.

BTW the smaller wire on the negative side doesnt need to be hooked up (you can buy them with just the larger AWG wire but o'reillys was sold out of them when i was there)
