Battery Question

question from a noob. I have an 05 TJ 6 cylinder and my battery is on it's last leg. what type of battery should I get that might last a while? I only have a stereo system and a converter for my laptop that I occasionally use when traveling. Any suggestions would help. Thanks all

I've heard the optima red tops are really good but that may be more than what you're looking for.

Diehard gold or platinum, napa, or interstate have all been good from what ive heard, the die hard platinum is the best but is also very expensive.

Optima is the best on the market. But interstate is more than adequate. Duralast is the economy level but still quality stuff.

What ever you decide, get the best and biggest your budget will allow.
Plan for the future. Winch/ lots of off road lamps? You are going to need a strong battery for it.

no, optima is crap nowadays. for real, plant moved to mexico and quality went in the toilet. don't get an optima.

If you're looking for a battery you can trust, check out the Diehard Platinum P1 or P4. Almost 100 more cranking amps than the nearest Optima and about 10lbs heavier (more lead). Same battery as the high dollar Odyssey, with the best warranty in the business = 4 year free replacement + 100 month prorated.

I work with a fleet of vehicles from Fire Trucks, Deicers, Emergency Vehicles to Ford Pickups and Chevy Sedans and we have been using Interstate Batteries without issues.

Either way, whatever you choose, you will need a Group Size 34. The OE Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) are 600.

The Interstate MTP-34 has a CCA of 800 & CA (Cranking Amps) of 1000
The Interstate MT-34 has a CCA of 700 & CA of 875
-The 34's Dimensions are L 10 1/4" x W 6 7/8" x H 7 3/4"

Now, if you are planning on lots of extras like, Stereos, Winches, Lighting, etc. You might want to look into the Optima Yellow Top.

Yellow Top
Optima SC34DU (Deep Cycle) - CCA 750 & CA 870 (Dual Post)
-L 10 x W 6 7/8 x 7 13/16

Red Top
Optima SC34U - CCA 800 & CA 1000 (Dual Post)
-L 10 x W 6 7/8 x 7 13/16

Whatever you choose, just make sure you choose the best battery for the applications you will be using it for. Interstates are really good batteries, the positives for Optimas are that they are Gel and not a liquid.

Just remember, if you buy cheap, you get cheap. Think of a battery as an investment.

Hope this helps.

Optimas aren't what they used to be. Get an Odyssey or a Diehard Platinum.

Odyssey PC1500DT is the very best and also the most expensive. Worth it if you winch. Probably not if you don't. I've had several Odyssey's, always flawless under severe duty cycles.

I just replaced mine with the Diehard platinum, best battery I thought for the money, not the cheapest but after researcing the internet such as this site it looked like the best , for me. Seems like almost all batteries are made in a handful of plants?
