BB vs. 2" coils

Could be a stoooopid question, but whats the advantage of purchasing a full 2" suspension lift over a 2" BB w/shocks?

Depends on the kit and what's in it. but, the 2" coil will give you a bit more flex as its longer than the stock coil with a spacer on top.

the only major difference is amount of flex and price, you get what you pay for. If you decide to uprgade to either, just be sure to get new shocks or they will limit travel

another thing about BB's and any hard flexing you do offroad is that with the BB, you have given your suspension more room to flex without having longer coils, so you'll risk over-compressing your current coils leading to sagging and such. just another thing to think about.

I decided to go with a full 2" coil lift in case I get a winch or heavier bumpers and want to put in spacers to make up for the extra weight. If you have a BB and buy a winch, you can't put more spacers in, so if you plan on getting one in the future I recommend getting a 2" coil lift.

as long as you have extended bumpstops, it is ok. If you go the BB route, just get a full kit that includes the bumpstops....RE kit is one of them, thats what i run and I have zero complaints

This is definately a noob question....what is "BB"? Thanks.

I think it's skyjacker(lots of red and white) that offers a spacer lift with hydro or nitro shocks included for about 400 dollars or so. I'd have to double check, but it looked like a pretty nice deal. I just want to fit slightly bigger tires. Nothing monstrous, maybe 31's or 32's.

The BB is "Budget Boost" its a 1.75 or 2" spacers which sit on top of the stock coils to lift the Jeep. They should come with Bumpstops, spacers and shocks or new shock mounts to reuse the originals. I helped install one on my buddies 05 TJ x and he's running 32x11.50's and they work fine. He can rub on his rear fender without swaybar disconnects though.

I think it is, I was just curious to find out the major benefits over a spring 2" lift. You should be able to find one for about $200 - $220 complete. (shocks, spacers, and bumpstops) I know there has been a lot of people who have run them, and I have previously installed one on a friends Jeep. I plan on doing a 1" or 1.25" Body Lift also, and running 305/70/16's.

I want to get rid of my Tacoma for a nice Wrangler. And for financing reasons, it has to be around a 2000 or so.

I put 4-2 inch spacers I got on ebay for $30 on my 97, no bumpstop extensions. I m running the stock shocks for now and 33x10.50. No problems yet, but I went a head and put coil springs from an '05 I got for free, b/c my winch made the front end sag 2 inches. Then trimmed the rear spacers 3/4 of an inch and it sits level. I am happy.

One of the Companys that I sell Is RockKrawler, and they have an entry level 2" kit that comes with spacers, shocks AND SWAY BAR DISCONNECTS!!!!! Hows that for Complete???? Lets not forget the issue of the swaybar when we lift even 2"......Its true about overcompressing the spring, but its really not relavent in a BB setup. The stock coil will not reach coil bind with a 2" spacer, and its *almost* Impossible to get a shock thats long enough in there to let the spring reach a bind situation. Food for thought.

How much is the lift you speak of with sway bar disco's? I'm planning on buying the RR BB and BL combo, its only about $205 including shipping. - Chris

Chris, Thats a SMOKIN deal for a Budget Boost AND a Body Lift. Just remember, when you do a body lift, you also need to do a Motor mount lift. I think the RK kit is 299 Retail, but it comes with sway bar disconnects too. Sounds like you got about 4" in mind...good set-up I do ALOT of the same for some of the local dealers around Phx because you can get 33's on this set up with no problems and keep all of the stock "hard" parts.

erm, does it come with new shocks? I think I read something in there that said "shock extension".. I don't know much about that.. but I don't think I'd want it on my jeep.. I bought the 2 inch sky jacker budget boost off of quadratec for like 225, came with spacers, extended bump stops, and new shocks.. It was a nice kit, and I don't have any problems with it.. and if you really want a body lift, you can get one for like a 100 bucks.. I just think getting new shocks is something you should definently think about.

I was looking at the same kit on quadratec's website .I'm runniong a 4.0 w/ 3.07 stock gears and a man. tranny. I was told if I run 32's i'm gonna beat the hell outta my tranny and rears . unless I regear.

I know a friend running a 4in with 33's and the 3.07 gears. he says it sucks. when I have to down shift into fourth going uphill on pavement, They are already in third. No power at all. He's been running this for about 2 yrs even hitting some good trails in it too and hasn't torn up the gears yet. I would still advice 2 switch them though.

There's nothing that says you can't run 32's or 33's with 3.07 gearing, however you going to have to deal with the loss of power and shifting all the time. You might want to take the gearing route first. If you know what size tire/lift you are going to run. Then look into the cheap BB's out there or whatever you want.

ialex2005i

the kit does come with shock extensions so the stock shocks can be used. There's nothing to say those can't be replaced if you someone wants to later down the road. The RR BB + BL combo gives the bodylift as well. Like you said, the bodylift is only about $100 but that would put you over the $300 range with the skyjacker lift used. It's over $100 cheaper to go the RR route. I've chatted with folks who went this route and have been plenty happy with it. - Chris

The only problem is that it doesn come with shocks, just new mounting brackets.

Thats correct, but the new mounting brackets are what allow you to use the original equipment. The shocks wont be bottoming out. I'm sure they could while disco'd with a good flex.

no prob.

sent you a pm on jeepforum. there 31's im ready for new tires now but im torn on the size. like everyone else was talking bout i have the dreaded 3.07's i have no problem with my 31's and the wheel travel is great. i really want 32's but do i really wanna give up the travel. and will the make a big diff. with the power band thing? i drove my buddies yj the other day and he has 33's w/ 3.07 gears and he's carburated. i really didnt notice it being a big problem on the road. havent driven it offroad but he doesnt seem to struggle. im thinkin fuel inj. newer model i should be ok. I'm sure you'll be fine moving up to 32's or 33's it may just suck to drive. I'd look for a used pair, throw em on, and see how they work out. You'll always be able to get rid of them if you don't like it. I say go for it - Chris
