I have been wanting to put down a bed liner in for some time now but am hesitant as to which bed liner would be the best. I know that having it professionally sprayed would be better but I want to do the project by myself. I have used herculiner in the past on my truck and toolbox but i did not do the best prep and gas got spilled and the liner flaked. I have heard great things about raptor liner and monstaliner. If you have bed liner in your jeep please share your opinions and if possible your pictures.
I used monstaliner in my tub and like it. Definitely gave the inside a new, fresh look compared to the worn out 16 year paint on the inside. I say go for it, prep is key and don't skimp or you'll get shitty results. Alot easier to hose out the inside now!
TJ Rubi, I debated the same thing but decided to take it in and get line-X put in the tub. From everything I have read, the line-X is more expensive, but clearly lasts the longest and is the toughest. I have mine scheduled to be done the first week of january, so I am pretty jacked.
Herculiner. 3 day job. Strip interior and sand down paint, had no rust to fix. Day 2 two coats on entire tub, 3 in the high traffic spots, Day 3 reassemble. Best $100 spent on a mod. Take your time on the prep and it will come out great. Since there are so many small curved spots to get I did the whole thing with a brush. New brush for each coat. Was easier to keep the rubber evened out. Not like a truck bed where you have a lot of flat surface area. Forget the kit, just buy the can and 3 cheap brushes. Also forget the green scrubby thing and use 120 grit sandpaper. Faster and better grip for the liner. Good Luck.
I have a 97 TJ and just did the herculiner in it. Bought it off e-bay and made an offer of 62.00 and he accepted it. Could not be happier. This is some tuff stuff. I might have oversanded , but no harm done. I don't know how you would spray this, it's pretty thick. I just brushed the whole thing and it looks fine. I did not take out the roll bar, but everything else i did. I just scooted the pads on the bars up enough to brush it and after it dryed i scooted them down . Some people are saying it gets hot without the carpet, but i'm thinking it's gonna be OK. Saved the front carpet just in case. I also did the fuel tank guard with it and it looks good. The one gallon size was plenty for the job. Not planning on doing the fender flares, but some people have and looks good> Good luck and prep is everything!
I debated the exact same thing and decided to get my professionally done with Line X. Could not be happier. It looks great, cleans up well and did not take me any time! HA.
Welcome. If you don't like the rough feel, don't go with herculiner. That's what I have and it's a pain to wash. The dirt gets stuck everywhere. Try Line-X or a smoother brand application and yes, prep is very important.
I'm doing the Herculiner this spring sometime. Any tips as far as prep go? I noticed one guy said use 120 grit sand paper. Mineral spirits and tack cloths to clean up before rolling on?
I love my herculiner, I did it a few months ago and it's holding up great. It is definitely more aggressive than other products but I like that factor. Definitely do a good sanding job and try to get a majority of the paint off then rub it down with a cleaning solution And let it dry then your ready to go.
I got line-X done in mine for $750.00 had to take a lot of stuff out myself, but it was worth it.
