Beginner Lift

Just wanted to know why everyone thinks is a decent lift for a first time jeep owner. I'll be honest I don't plan on off-toadying much as of now, but I'd like to make her look bigger. I was thinking of putting on 33's, so I was hoping I could get some input. Thanks!

P.S. I'm sure it's been asked but could a novice like me install a lift kit by myself?

cheaper route, look into a 2" spacer lift with shocks. Add 1"-1.25" bodylift and a MML. You can install it yourself if you own some jack stands, floor jack, and basic wrenches/socket set. You can also do your own alignment after lift.

My budget is around 500$ as of right now, but I may wait a little bit and continue saving for a while.

You should be able to a spacer lift/shocks kit, BL and MML for under $600

Not familiar with neither one. I'm not too fond of the RE twin tube shocks, may be alittle rough. Look into Teraflex kits. If you consider coil spring lift instead, you might look into the BDS 2" lift. It may be in your budget and good reviews.

Spacers are spacers. Not much of a difference between the bunch. Get them on fleabay for dirt cheap, get some bumpstop extensions to match them or use the hockey puck bumpstop mod, and then get some nice shocks elsewhere. Do some research on shocks and read reviews on them. OME, Bilstien, Rancho 90000xl, get rave reviews while Rough Country and Pro Comp get mostly horrid reviews. I didn't like my SkyCrapper hydros but others have liked them.

I am pretty happy with my zone 4.25" combo kit ... A great guy helped me out with it ;-) fits my 33's and looks great... search the forum for my thread about it

How much did that run you? And also if I used the leveling kit/body lift, the stock tires are 225 width would a 235 width tire allow enough back spacing? I have 225/75R16 tires and I couldn't find any km2's (the tires I was lookin at getting) in a 225 width. Am I even making sense haha. Looking for a 33'' without needing to worry about back spacing.

ebay spacers 2in $50, Rough country 1.25bl and 1in mml $150, so a 3.25in lift for $200 if you do the work yourself. This is what I'm running, 33s soon to come

Do you have stock wheels, or aftermarket? Do you know the back spacing? 305/70/16 is about the equivalent of a 33x12.5x16.

I would save for a couple more months and do a 2.5" old man emu spring lift. It isn't cheap, but for both on and offroad it will exceed your wants. These shock and spring combos ride better then stock and can be configured to suite your needs.

Things you will need are the shocks, springs, rear track bar bracket, rear sway bar links for 2" lift, bump stop extensions, front disconnects , 1" motor mount lift and a 1" to 1.25" body lift. Don't go more then 1.25" with the body lift!

The budget boost spacers are fine for a cheap fix. The thing is you still should add everything mentioned above to do a 2" lift correctly. So basically the only difference is the added cost of the springs vs the bb spacers.

Other things like new control arms can be added later when the offroading addiction sets in. Also you can weld a plate over the axle side track bar bracket and redrilling the hole 3/4" over to recenter the axle under your jeep. And with any suspension lift you will need a front end alignment.

If you have a 2 dr JK, you can get a couple inches from putting on the take off springs from a JKU Rubicon. There are lots of these springs for sale for under $100.00.

Hey everyone just wondering if I moved up to 33's, would I need to regear? I have a 5 spd manual, 4.0L, Sport so I'm not too sure what my stock gearing is. I'm sure I can find it pretty easy though

I'm not 100% sure on yours, but stock gears start at 3.07 for 33s i think 3.56 are recommended, usually for bigger tires than 31s you need to regear.

If you have 3.73's, it may be bearable. It depends on your driving style and how hilly the driving is. The 3.73 is not bad at all for highway driving on flat terrain. Anything lower than 3.73 you'll start to really suffer. If you find that you do need to regear, 4.56 is what most will recommend to get you back in the rpm range for power.

I really just use mine for a dd. I do go out to the country and some semi rough terrain but no huge hills

For 33s you do not need to regear the only time you have to regear is when you go up to a 35.....33s are the last step before you have to regear and get new or upgrade your axles ive looked into it and im going up to 33s with the stock gears/axles

You don't have to regear, but will definitely be at a noticeable loss of power, and have even worse mpg, specially if his stock gears are the low 3.07 which the 5speed came stock with without factory upgrades. I'm at 3.07 gears with 31s and definitely notice I need to gear up, not to mention my mpgs are 10mpg highway even though I have brand new everything under the hood and others running tires bigger than mine have gotten even 22mpgs
