Belly pan

Anyone haves problem with the frame section that holds the belly pan on rust the threads out for the bolt on the belly pan? I guess what I am saying is the threads are rusted and the belly pan won't go back on. Suggestions? Solutions?

Drill all the way through and put longer bolts.

Or would it be better to drill the bottom of the frame and tap that same hole and put a bigger bolt in?

Is this belly pan just for protection or does it hold the tranny up? I don't have this thing all the way out yet I stopped when I saw the problem.

Yeah you wanna support the rear of the transfer case with a Jack stand or something while the skid is off. It will put great undo stress on the motor mounts if not

If your in a rust prone area, either close to the beach or up north, I'm in eastern NC about 1.5 hrs from the beach and my 2000 has zero rust

Personally I wouldn't do either of those things. Here are instructions on how to fix those nutserts properly:

Nutsert for Transfer Case Removal and Install - JeepForum.com

It's very easy to fix; either grind/chisel/drill the old nutserts out as show in the guide, and install the new ones.

And instead of going to the dealer to buy those nutserts, Blaine has managed to find a source for them and is selling them for much cheaper than going to the dealer. You can find them here:

Yeah I also would not drill al the way through. Should work OK if you don't tighten it too much but not the safest bet.

So what would be the safest bet? Frame swap or put a patch replacement in there?

You need to be more specific. A problem with the nutserts that hold the transfer case skid on doesn't warrant a frame swap, so is your problem more than you're letting on? If the only issue you have is a few nutserts are bad, you can easily fix that. If you have much more of a rust issue than you initially let on then you'll need to provide some pics so we can see how bad it is. Having problems with nutserts is very common when they aren't maintained very well. If that is your only issue, it is easily fixed in less than an hour.

I read that one wrong. I thought he was talking about the nut threads. My bad I stand corrected.

Thanks for all the help and I placed my order 23.00 is a good deal for all 6. looks like I'll be wrenching by next weekend hopefully.
