Best exhaust?

I've recently discovered that my CAT converter is clogged up, and my muffler has a big dent because I don't have a tummy tuck or lift yet.

So what're some exhaust systems that are not rediculously loud that help my performance. I have a 98 2.5 liter 4 cylinder. Kinda hoping to keep it below $350. I can do my own labor so that's not a problem.

I had to redo my whole exhaust (Cracked manifold). I bought a Drake Header, installed that, then took it to an exhaust shop to get a new system in.

I got the flowmaster 40 series, single in dual out. It sounds awesome! I also took out my CAT (No emissions testing in Florida) so I don't have to worry about that. I noticed a power increase when I went from stock to what I have now, and I love it.

I WAS going to get the Banks Monster exhaust ($$$) but that never happened. I'm happy with what I have now, and I saved money on it as well.

I was thinking about taking the baffles out of my CAT now and re-welding it back together, but I don't know how legal that would be in Texas. What you have sounds like it'd be pretty good.

Dynomax super turbo cat back for me. Something like 2-3 times the flow of stock. A nice low rumble at idle but sounds just a little louder than stock. A great option if you want to stay quieter. I got mine for $80 or something after a $75 off promotion last year. Pretty easy install too.

A new muffler and tailpipe won't help too much with horsepower, but will help throttle response with the added flow abilities. Cutting the cats off or installing high flow cats will make the difference.

Got the same exhaust. Dynomax Super Turbo cat back. Not loud at all, sounds pretty much stock.

+1 on the Dynomax. The next owner of my XJ put the catback system on it and it sounded just about perfect. Not loud at all and no drone.

I went with a Borla Header and will probably finish with the Borla. I found a NEW header on Ebay for $150! I found a Borla Catback on CL for $200. If you shop around and are not in a hurry there are some fantastic deals out there.

There's a New Banks exhaust consistently on Ebay for $235 SHIPPED! FYI...

That same kinda deal is going on again this year but it is only for a $50 Visa card. Keep in mind that there are two basic styles for TJs so you'll have to figure out which one you'll need. Mine is a 2000 TJ and uses a flange.

I have all custom bending and my pipes stop right after the skid plate. The muffler just has 2 drop downs and it gets the exhaust away from the jeep pretty well. I'm happy with it. I'll take pics if you want

pics would be awesome. If I had a tube bender I'd do something like that.
