Best/Quietest soft top?

I have been searching for the last 2 weeks now and can't seem to find what I'm looking for. I just purchased a 2001 with the factory hard top and full steel doors. The jeep came with a 1 year old Bestop Sunrider soft top that is in very good shape. I know that soft tops are gonna be louder/noiser. The problem I'm having is the top sounds like it is leaking air in right at the windshield header? I can't actually feel any air coming into the cab. The Header and windshield channel look good too? I like the sunrider feature in the top but can't stand the air leak noise! I have been looking at the supertop nx, the trektop nx and supertopp. I know I want the sail cloth material but what top would be the quitest?

i think im not pretty sure but if im right in 2003 the original mopar soft top came with 4 layers of sail cloth making it even better with sound insulation than the hardtop but im not quite sure of that i might be wrong.

have you checked your side door surrounds?

Yeah my door surrounds are sealing good and fit the doors nicely. The top looks to be fitting everywhere good and fits tight. I just don't want to purchase another full soft top if it is going to sound the same as this sunrider.

Would the Bestop Trektop nx be any better than the Supertop nx for noise? Both look to be nice kits? I like the little bit of extra room the Supertop has to offer over the Trektop.

2001 did for sure and I think 2002 did as well. 2003 was the first year for the 3-ply softtop.

This is correct. I've had a 01 and 04 top. The 01 is thicker/heavier.

I run the Trektop NX on my JK and I'm really happy with it. It fits tight and doesn't flap around too much at all. the install itself is a little bit of a pain, but once it has a day or two to stretch out it's a breeze to take the windows out to go topless.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.

I recently installed the Supertop NX two months ago. The fit is great, and love the sunrider feature. I haven't noticed any wind/leaking noise, but also didn't with my OEM top this replaced.

The Softopper I have now is the best I've had, but I can only compare it to the old stock top it replaced.

Looking at the newest available top (the Bestop twill fabric), I'd say it's probably the best available at the moment. Again, this is without any experience with that particular top/fabric.

X2 on Softopper and I use to run a hard top.
That new twill fabric cost too much money

Do you guys with the Trektop or Supertopper notice a lot less head room for back seat riders? I like the way the frame-less tops look compared to the Supertop or my Sunrider. Can a adult still ride in the back seat with the frame-less tops?

The Trektop will limit your back seat headroom and storage. The headrests for my back seats barley clear the top. I don't usually have any people in the back seats so it's not a problem for me.

As for the Supertop, it's the same dimensions as the factory top. So, you won't have any less headroom than you do now. There shouldn't be any issues fitting an adult in the back.

I have heard good things about the BestTop Sailcloth tops being almost as quiet as the OE stuff.

Do not - repeat do not buy a pavement ends top. I have one and it's paper thin and loose.

There's enough headroom for my son to sit in the back, he's about 5'10" or so. As far as cargo space, there's less but that's the nature of the frameless tops.

That's what I was wondering with the Trektop. If someone thats 5'10" can sit in the back with a trektop I should be good! My brothers are usually with me so I need to have room for 4 adults sometimes. I don't really need the cargo space so that's not a concern.

Don't misunderstand, I don't have a Trektop, I've got a Softopper. Not saying that a Trektop would have more or less space, I don't know if it would or not. I can't see that it would be much different tho.

I have ran a few "different" tops...basically different styles...My Frameless from Bestop is by far the most quiet on the road...I have no back seat but to get an idea have your largest brother sit in the Jeep with top down...If his head doesn't stick up above the roll bar your good!!!...but honestly doubt it will be up that far even...the frameless tops "sit" on the rollbarsthats the line you are looking at IMO.

BTW since Jeep chooses Bestop to make the OEM tops I have only purchased Bestop. My Jeep was a ST from the factory, added a bikini, and also ran a Halftop for a couple years...now that I got the Frameless all the rest are obsolete.....it was nice getting all new hard ware also.

From my own personal experience the Supertop NX is top notch.

We just did a 14hr round trip to Gulf Shores, and back to Florida over memorial day weekend and the Supertop NX was pretty amazing doing 75 - 80mph down I-10. Quiet enough for the g/f to pass out for a few hours on the way home. No soft top is a hard top but going from the factory soft top to the Supertop NX was a night and day difference.

my 2003 has a bestop on it that was purchased by the dealer I bought my jeep from. It is noisey and flaps. Not sure what model of besttop. I am sure it was the cheapest one available.

I have the super top NX. Incredibly quiet for a soft top.

I would go with the supertop nx as well. I went from a hardtop to a supertop nx and the noise level is pretty close to the same. I love the sun rider feature and if you don't have all of the factory hardware this kit has everything you need.

Dang I can't seem to choose! I think I'm gonna get the Supertop Nx in the black diamond material (sail cloth). I really like the looks of the Trektop but need the room to haul 4 people and just don't think it would have enough head room. I am getting excited to see how much less noise either top will make than my 1 year old sunrider!
