Hi there, just got a new (new to me) 04 Jeep Wrangler soft top. I am curious what people do with their jeeps to secure from being stolen.

- Do you think a lock cover for trunk actually works?
- would the club for the brake work?

I understand keeping the glove compartment and center console unlocked is ideal, but what if I wanted to leave a few things in there scurely? Any suggestions?

Google up Tuffy Security Products for Jeeps. They make some good products, but are pricy. My advise, leave nothing valuable in your Jeep and leave the doors unlocked so no one cuts into your soft top.

I have a tuffy lock box under my driver seat. Apart from that, I have a cheap ass head unit, a cheap ass CB radio and leave nothing of value in my Jeep outside of my lockbox. I keep all of my doors unlocked. So far the only thing that's ever been stolen from my Jeep was a pack of cigarettes I left in one of my cupholders.

I always put a GPS tracker in my cars to track if they are taken... If someone wants your jeep bad enough there is nothing you can do to stop them...

If I end up in a place where theft is a high probability (IE a hotel parking lot) I will get under the hood and remove all the relays that run the starter, fuel pump and ignition... The only way they will steal it then is with a tow truck...

One of the highest theft items in a Jeep is the battery... It takes about a minute for the battery to disappear... Invest in a good hood or battery lock...

I appreciate all the responses. I am just going to purchase some small items to made it harder to steal.

What I bought:
- Locking Lug Nuts
- Hood Lock
- Steel Glovebox
- Brake Pedal Lock

I am getting an alarm and not spending a dime more. But it will at least give me a bit piece of mind. I hope to get a kill switch with the alarm system, looking into Viper.

I installed a locking glove box vault in place of the OEM glove box, which I put the stereo faceplate in when leaving the Jeep. I also never lock my Jeep.

I personally wouldn't spend the $$ on the brake pedal club, thieves typically bypass them with no issues. Instead I did this: http://www.wranglerforum.com/f282/installed-oro-kill-switch-1708802.html and am very happy with it for the cost.

Good luck!

There are several easy kill switches out there. The one I've been eying is the battery kill switch, that ultimately disconnects the battery from the rest of the Jeep. Either that one or the ignition coil.

Although I've never owned one, I've heard nothing but horrible things surrounding the aftermarket alarm systems.

I have an aftermarket alarm on mine and had it for about 4 years. I really don't have many complaints about it. It acts more as a presence than actual preventative. It has a shake sensor so if someone gets in or bumps it, it'll either give warning chirps or go off. The shake isn't 100% all the time but it does work most of the time and almost never gives a false alarm.

I had an '04 TJ and never locked the doors. I never left anything of value in it and never had an issue. With my JKU, I have a hard top, but take off the doors every chance that I get and leave nothing of real value in it when I do. I even take out my daughter's car seat. I went shopping at Lowes a few weeks ago and some guy had opened my swing gate and was raising my back window when I came out. I just casually walked up and stood behind him. After a few choice words and giving him the option to close the window and gate or get his head busted open on it, I let him shut it and walk away. I am willing to bet that he had already seen that there was nothing in the glovebox, or the center section. In my younger days, I probably would have handled it differently, but as I have aged, I have mellowed out some.

As I live in Texas if I had found him doing this I would have busted him in the head and called police... If he was brazen enough to do that in broad daylight then it is likely he has a long extensive record... It would protect future people that are less able to protect themselves (such as my 72 YO mother that shops at the same store.) After dark he would risk getting shot here as it is legal to use deadly force in a situation like that in Texas.

I live in West LA, capital of cars being stolen (maybe Chicago beats LA). However, thankfully Hondas have been more to the likings of theifs. I just want to have some extra security for in case something happens. All of the things mentioned are being done, but I need to have extra layers so it takes them longer to take it lol.

Alarm is expensive but I'm getting one for sure.

The I didn't get the Tuffy lock box because it wasn't a full glove box. I got a smittybilt one. I did get the trunk lock Tuffy though :)

Mine was only $200. That's with the install

I bought a Bestop Instatrunk for mine and I will be adding the Tuffy hood lock, underseat lock box, and glove box soon. As far as overall theft protection of the vehicle itself, I haven't decided on the best method yet. I did give my daughter a club for her steering wheel of her '02 TJ.

It is a heavy bugger so it should do the job nicely. :blackeye:winner:

Ok, I received all parts! Yay! But one thing I am so confused about is the tuffy hood lock. Does the hook that is attached to hood not latch to this device? Is the device just pushing it against the metal? Sorry no idea how to explain it. I need to get a tool kit for my jeep now..... Money money money.

Viper alarm, lug nut locks, and gas cover installed! I noticed everything I bought is steel, I will be the only jeep that is fully secured lol.
