Best winch for around 300?

Hey, im in highschool and have been working on my jeep this summer, i have plans to get a warn or ramsey winch for christmas but i wont something on it in the mean time, what is the best winch for around 300? Ive seen smittybilt, quadratec, mile marker, and super winch has a winch in this price range. And i know how much better a warn or ramsey is but i cant afford that right now and i will most likely get a warn m8000 for christmas

I would check craigslist for a used Warn, or Ramsey . You should be able to easily buy one in that price range. The best part is, when, or if you get a new one for christmas you can sell the used one and get back every penny you have in to buying it.

Always buy American if your looking for reliability. You get what you pay for and....buy nice or buy twice. Wait for Christmas you can get by no problem that's why you bought a Jeep

Well if you want America buy a non VR warn or Ramsey. Otherwise your out of luck. Now considering your price range there are several budget winches to look at. However, why do you need a winch of your gettin a nice warm for Christmas? Jeez.

I just grabbed a superwinch lp8500 for $289 with free shipping from sportsmansguide.com, not sure on the quality but the price was nice and it gets decent enough reviews. Plus the money saved can go to synthetic line. I have heard great things about the smittys tho.

LMAO even when the OP says $300 the Warn guys think thats "budget", and if chinese made is such a huge issue for you Warn guys, you need to take off all your clothes, your shoes, take out your car stereo and your computer and throw them all away, if your not going to do that, then dont think a chinese winch is worse than YOUR chinese components and clothes

There are a lot of really good winches in the $300 area, in fact the majority of the good winches are right at $300, you have a wide variety of choices, just be sure to get at least an 8500 lb winch a couple D-rings and at least 1 snatch block, you can get smittybuilt snatchblocks for around $22 at a few of the larger sites.

I will say I have a Rugged Ridge 8500 lb, its been on the front of my Jeep, uncovered, in Wyoming winters and Arizona and Moab summers for 2 years, and I just, 3 days ago, did a single line pull up a 30 deg climb in soft shale, didnt even heat up , Ive winched more full size trucks than Jeeps, its been a great winch and a great tool for the $290 I paid for it.

See that's the problem O_M_, I mean for $300 ish how different are the winches at this price point? Its kind of hard to make a decision since everyone makes a $300 winch now.

The best $300 winch is a used Warn M8000 or similar. Asking about the best new $300 winch is like asking which is the best $1.99 bottle of wine.

There again you miss the point. For some things like computers, or parts used in manufacturing a new car, or the smart phone I'm on right now, you have no choice in buying foreign, or domestic. Those of us that buy American made do so when possible, but it simple isn't possible to always do so because so many products cannot be sourced from American companies anymore.
Warn is a better winch hands down. It's an investment that will hold it's value long after a cheap china winch has died. I saw one of those awesome Smitty winches being sold for $50.00 on cl a couple weeks back. You may have guessed it was broken and being sold as is.

Don't be hatin on the Boones Farm!

Thats really all I have to add, I'm burnt out on the American! no Budget battle. Just freakin buy what makes you happy and have fun in your Jeep, smashing the curbs (after all, he admitted it was a mall crawler)

IF you know your getting one for Christmas it seems like a waist of money to get a "budget" one now... Why not just hold off and pick good lines that way you can use the 300 bucks for other mods like rockslides, Oil pan skid, steering box skid, which I have found just as if not more usefull than my winch...

I hate to fuel the fire, but I have NEVER heard of an Engo winch failing. They are made in china and under $300 for the 9000lb. I have yet to read a review where a winch failed

I went Engo for a few reasons...
this thread Engo Winch Sale - 9K Winch for only $289 with Free Shipping and the multi-winch shoot out on the first post.
AND
power, the Engo actually produces more power and torque with less amp consumption which means its easier on your electrical system.
and like the above, i have heard no complaints for failure.

Engo's winch is still so new that of course you may not have heard of many failures yet. How anyone can push a winch brand so hard that hasn't been around long enough to have earned a reputation for holding up over the long haul is beyond me. Warn has earned its reputation over the past 50 years. Engo has not been around long enough to have earned a reputation yet for anything but its cheap price and an initial magazine test.

So if the only reason you want a winch is to look cool when you go back to school, why do you care about what the "best" is? Just get the cheapest winch you can find and slap it on there.

Or, ya know, don't be stupid and waste your money just to look "cool". Ahh to be in high school again...
