Bestop Bikini Top...Help!

I'm trying to install my new Bestop Bikini on my '05 TJ. My problem is the front corners, something doesn't seem right. I took a couple of pictures. Putting on by myself was a bear, but it is super tight. Is this how it's suppose to look? If not, any suggestions on how to fix it?

Thanks

I don't have a Bestop, but my Smitty looks about the same.

First time putting it on the stiff plastic strip that runs in the front channel doesn't want to play nice. After being stretched out for a while and sitting in the hot sun for a bit it cooperates better. The extra bit of material that you have there is a rain channel, so to speak. It's supposed to direct water to fall off there instead of the back or on you.

Maybe someone else with more experience can chime in but I say give it a couple of days in the warm sun and try to reinstall it. It'll be fine.

Watch the slideshow I made on my install ... same basic design and steps.... and yeah... until you get that channel up there nice and tight, it can be a PITA!!!

Each photo in the slideshow has directions..... even for that weird fold I figured out!!!

Sb001 - Wrangler Forum Gallery

HERE!!! I extracted the photos you needed with an explanation...

There is some excess material right at the windshield corner... tuck in toward the front, pull the velcro strip through the inside of the door channel.

Lay the remaining fold toward rear and attach the outer velcro strap to the one you tuck inside the door channel. Should look like this when you are done. GO BACK AND RE-SNUG the center strap to the windshield frame at this point.

Wow - I've never been able to work out that strange fold - thanks Todd.

As everyone has said, the top is very hard to install when new. It almost falls into place when it's been 'worn-in' a bit.

I had my bikini top rail jammed in the header with weights for about a week before trying to get it on the Jeep, hoping it would start to 'learn' the shape it had to be.

No problem! I always try to help others understand things that just don't seem right. MANY threads on here I have learned from... just paying it forward...

Question...... what is the purpose of that little flap any way. I understood it to have something to do with water run off, but who rides with a bikini in a rain storm?

I could be totally wrong here but always thought it was to allow for the slight difference between wrapping the bikini top around the roll bar or slotting it into the door surrounds.

It is... to an extent... for both. IF folded correctly, the water will run off better when the surrounds are on. If you are wrapped on the roll bar, it gives you the slight extension of the material in that area to do so.

I need to switch to summer top...but waiting for the jammer zip out window to be finished next week.....but anyway.... I "fold" that seam/ strap area back and tuck it under nice and tight. But as has been mentioned after a season of running the bikini top it falls on by itself almost....mine is 5 years old.
