Bestop Trektop NX or Rampage Trail Top?

I was planning on getting the Rampage Trail Top...but... I saw that Bestop had come out with their Trektop NX. My Questions are:

1) Does the Trektop NX use the factory door surrounds?
2) Does the NX come with all the hardware needed to make it fit on the vehicle (header, tailgate bar, etc.)?

Im just trying to figure out the right choice. I have heard great things on the Rampage, and have had great experiences with Bestop.

Thanks in Advance...

I believe the Bestop comes with factory style door surrounds and all the other supporting hardware. You need to buy them separately for the Rampage top iirc.

Anyone know if the Bestop is made of the heavy duty Sailcloth?

But... The Rampage allows for you to store the windows up top (which I really like myself).

When does the NX come out?

I can definitively answer a few questions about the Bestop NX.

It comes with a Sailcloth top and literally everything and every single little part needed. Door surrounds, soft top mechanism that is an improved version of the OE mechanism, tailgate bar, hardware, everything to give you an improved version of what comes with the factory soft top.

It has some cool enhancements that the OE version doesn't have. Like the mechanism is adjustable to tighten the top years down the road as the top's fit relaxes a tad. No torx-driver is needed to remove the top mechanism, it has spring-loaded pins that replace the old torx-head screws. Pull the pin out against the spring and it releases from the bracket. Nice!

It's a great product and as I told Geoff when he told me about it late last year, I said "It's about time" that Bestop is finally legally able to sell the entire top including the OE-style soft top mechanism that Jeep, until recently, had exclusive rights to sell only through their dealer network.

I don't work for Bestop but it my strongest possible personal opinion, their soft top quality is #1 and that's the only brand I would go with.

Jerry you may have sold me on the NX. When is the release date? I need a new top as soon as possible. The PO just thrashed the top and its been popping out of the channels on the Tub. I also have the back window zip tied in.

The Trektop NX is scheduled for early March - but I'm saying middle of the month to be careful.

It is sailcloth fabric, and it has factory style door surrounds.

A couple of Jerry's points above are specific to the SUPERTOP NX, not the Trektop NX. So the factory mounting points, etc.: the Trektop NX doesn't really have bows, so that's not accurate for this top. But the Top Arch support will be there, the factory style door surrounds, etc.

Fred: You're absolutely correct: the Rampage top has window storage, ours does not.

Same comment: factory style hardware is more about the Supertop NX, not the Trektop NX. But buy both!

I'd rather have a quality top rather than window storage. Geoff how long does it take to put the trektop back up? Can it also go into a safari top like the rampage? And biggest question is, what is the price going to be? Can u give me an estimate?

I am SOLD on the Trektop NX! The rep at 4 wheel parts said in 3 weeks they should have it.

This is for a TJ Unlimited... but... for those of you wondering:

Time to take down and put up? I dunno. Maybe five minutes (not the first few times). The windshield header is the nice factory style one that goes with the fabric, so it's a lot more convenient. But you still need to hook the door surrounds and the plastic tabs into the tub.

Safari top: YES. That's a big feature. All three panels zip off, and there are NO rear "legs" (or C pillars) like with a factory or Supertop. So with side and rear panels off, it's basically a full length Bikini.

You can get pricing now at several retailers. JeepAddons.com is a vendor here, and Chris* just posted somewhere else that they're taking preorders. They all set their own prices, so I don't even really pay attention.

*Chris also wears pink leotards and has a huge collection of Hello Kitty products. But don't let that stop you.

I'm kidding - I'm just giving him a hard time for having competitors products on his Jeep.

You do NOT need to buy hardware separately. Sorry for the confusion. ALL Bestop full tops come with everything you need. Always.

The only exception is the Replace-A-Top, which is specifically designed to be just the fabric and windows for people who already have good hardware (so it's not a "full top").

No one has ever accused Bestop of being inexpensive. But we wouldn't do that to you.

This is the exact reason why I finally decided on the TrekTop. I've had a Bestop Bikini on my 98 and fit perfectly. I also put the Sport Bar Pads on (Geoff they look awesome) and they fit perfectly also.

The only complaint with the Sport Bar Pads are they rub and squeak on the Hardtop (Geoff: Is there a fix for that?)

Other than that I have been happy...

The supertop having it's own set of hardware different from the oem style.

The new top looks awesome. In going to search out tonight and see if I can preorder..

I kinda wish they offered a Trektop NX package for people that already have stock hardware for a bit cheaper.

Wouldn't you have to change the pins out on the door surrounds? And I don't think the Stock Door surrounds have the slot on top for the arc that holds the top up.

The Trektops (classic and NX) don't really have any hardware to speak of. On the NX, a small bar up above the rear window, plus tailgate bars, top arch, and door surrounds.

So the only thing you'd save money on would be the door surrounds.

The hardware in the image in from KJeeper is for the Supertop NX.

We're talking about both tops at the same time here, and it gets a bit confusing.

The arc (Top Arch) doesn't hold the top up. It's not essential, just a nice bonus.

The pins (or door surround knobs) are basically the same (ours are a bit less styled). Same size though, and interchangeable, I think.

But you are exactly correct about the slot. The top arch will only work with our door surrounds.
