i don't expect a 4.0/6spd/33' tire Jeep to get better than 16mpg ....jeep has the aerodynamic of a brick on the hwy.

The best I have pulled so far has been 17, light footed 32rle with 3.07s and 33s. That's about it. Normally I get 15. Or less. I you drive about 45 mph everywhere you will optimize mpgs

Get rid of the lift and return to stock tires. Other than that, drive like a granny.

you have several options:
1. recalibrate the speedo with the proper speedo gear for the tire size.
2. drop to 30" tires
3. shift at or under 2,200 rpms
4. on the highway don't drive over 60mph.
5. keep up on the maintenance...clean air filter, clean fuel, oil changes, spark plugs, etc.
6. best solution - all of the above.

I re-geared. Went from 3:73 to 4:56 with 33s. That brought me back to near stock equivalency. Make sure your speedo gear matches your tire size so you get proper MPG numbers.

I get about 19mpg with 33" tires and stock 3.73 gears. I drive mostly highway though. 3.73 gears are great for the highway but suck on the rocks. I'd gladly pump more gas for better rock crawling. On my next regear, I'm shooting for 4.88s and locked on both ends. Them my mpg will suck but hopefully I'll have a more eco friendly ride for my 100 mile commute to and from work.

quick question whats the advantages and disadvantages of driving on 33's with stock d44 gearing vs d44 with 4.10?

Tires and lift play the biggest rolls in MPG for jeeps (assuming everything else is properly working). Once bigger tires come into play then gearing is the only thing that can save you.

If you're concerned about MPG, you bought the wrong vehicle.

It is a big square box with a stand up windshield. Nothing on the road is less aerodynamic, unless you strap a 4x8 piece of plywood to the front of a Prius.

The 4.0L is not the most fuel efficient in the world, and by the time you get wheels turning on a Jeep it's even less so.

Walk, take public transport, or buy a Chevy Volt if mileage is your goal.

I don't have a clue what my fuel economy is on my Jeep....I have never checked. BUT, I do think it is a good idea to know and campare just to be aware how it is running, to that end I have been guilty.

Just a quick question. How do you guys compute your mpg? Do you guesstimate?(<---I can't believe that's a real word) Or is there something you use to get exactly how much you get?

Thanks a bunch!

top off your tank...record gallons filled i.e.15.9
zero trip meter
run jeep until low fuel warning light turns on
record trip mileage i.e. 245 miles
divide total trip mileage by total gallons

245 divided by 15.9 = 15.4 mpg

Next time you fill fill up reset trip a on your odo. Then when you fill up again take the miles you went in trip a and divide it by how many gallons of gas you just put into the jeep, and there ya go, rough estimate of mpg without being able to really do an average

His was wrong, yours was correct. He was dividing the gallons put in before he drove. I'm sure he meant to say it the way you said though.
