I'm here in PA too. I bought my jeep 1 week ago and haven't had the doors on yet. Drove to work today with them off. Would definitely be interested to hear what happens.

Actually the judges son owns a jeep! Judge was a real cool and understanding guy.

BUT....... i lost!!! $111 down the drain. However the judge agreed 100% with me. The only reason i lost is the very first sentence of the vehicle code. If it came equipted with doors it had to have them on. He said just because Chrysler made them to be removed that doesnt trump state law.

I was prepaired with pics, inspection laws and my owners manuel.

He did however recommend that i appeal it to a higher court but warned it would be pricey. He also said petitioning for a clearer understanding and the right to ride doorless would be a good idea. Bikers have.

I dont plan on appealing. Saving the $ for a set of tube doors in which this trooper said would be legal. (but thats not how the law reads it) so who knows.

SORRY GUYS

Where in PA are you?

I'm a couple miles from the border...... I'd hate to run into this trooper by accident.

Just license your Jeep in a state that allows "doorless" use of a vehicle or has no ruling either way.

Resoprocity laws then prevail.

Did you have your mirrors on? I ride around Lancaster and have been pulled over with them off but never a ticket. I feel for you. That's not cool.

Mirrors have no value when doors are off. If it had doors as original equipment it has to have them.

It all depends on the cop. I ride in PA plenty (Philadelphia area, Pocono, and upstate) without door and never a problem.

I'm a Deputy Sheriff in Pa and none of my fellow law enforcement colleagues stop Jeeps with doors off. I personally wouldn't stop any fellow Jeepers for it since I can't wait to get my doors off. It's what Jeeping is all about!! I know some Cops can be hard asses and they make the rest of us look bad.

The doors and roof are not ment for safety but only protection from weather elements. The Judge shouldn't have never sided with the Police officer in this case. Just for the pure cause of it, if you have time. Get what ever club or group you roll with and go after the law, judgee, and trooper for this. It is clear also that this Police officer has it in for you or Jeep/Jeep Wranglers in general

I know there is money involved but with enough people the cost to jump down these peoples throats should be reasonable

Wow...that sucks. I fought a ticket in court a few years ago and lost when the judge ruled with the cop's word and not mine. I probably could have won if I took it higher, but it just wasn't worth my time/money to do so.

I am in Law Enforcement and yes there are some hard ass cops out there who go by the book but there are a lot like myself who aren't like that. I enjoy driving my Jeep with top and doors off and I wouldn't stop someone for it..

it says in there that that doors must be required unless the vehicle has been manufactured or modified without a roof... easy fix, run without a top and doors.

I completely agree. Shouldn't be speaking like that.

Im glad you might be one of the few good ones. To bad most are not like you. Manny earn the term I used every day they strap on there gun, badge, and attitude. Didn't mean to offend but I hate cops in general with a sick twisted passion as most are bad, while having a high apprecition for those that do it right. My favorite teacher in HS was a full time teacher/part time police officer. Amazing guy. Right now my interaction count is at 5 good cops to dozens of ones who are less then addiquate human beings

You keep fighting for the good ones and I'll keep hating every day that the bad ones give you guys a bad name.

The law said that the doors must open and close securely unless there is no top or side...so if this means that you still need doors can they just swing open and shut freely, unlatched if you have the top down?

There are a lot of things that are "technically" against the law but that doesn't mean you should get tickets and go to court. A little slack would be nice....especially while there are people out there breaking into Jeeps every day!

You can be busted for jaywalking, spiting, and in SC every adult male must bring a rifle to church on Sunday in order to ward off Indian attacks.

Just because it's "technically" a law doesn't make it right.

The Judge should have said...

"Really!?....you're holding up important criminal cases with THIS?"
