Question BL snag.?

Ok I finally started it. Everything was going fine til 2 of the side bolts... are just spinning. I cant for the life of me figure out how Im gonna get them out there. It is real rusty under there. I dont think a torch would be the answer, because even if i torched the heads off the problem still lies within the upper nut assembly. Anyone encountered such a problem with overly rusted parts? How can I get at that? Will the new bolt be able to theard onto anything once I do? Also., does anyone have directions in plain english, there is a lot of stuff that i think can be skipped in the PA directions.? I have tried: impact, hand, breaker bars, vice grips (while turning and pulling down), and alot of swearing and cussing the thing. The latter seams to work a little...

So the bolt is free spinning and will not some out? Does it use a nut welded to the body to hold the bolt in or does it screw into the body. I suppose if its in the body, you could drill it out and re tap it. If its a nut that has broken the weld, you might have to cut the body panel and gain access from the side to re-weld a new bolt in.

What's BL? A lift?

If it's what I think, the bolts that hold the skidplate on? The weldnut inside spins 'cause the weld's broken?

No problem - torch the heads off, remove the skidplate.
Hit the bolt's stub, knocking it inside the frame so it's out of the way.

Now you have an open hole.
Weld or JB weld a piece of weldrod or coathanger to replacement bolts heads.
Use the welded rod to guide the bolt through another hole in the frame till it hangs out through the hole. The rod is the handle.
Use a nut on the bottom.
Easy! Simple!

BL= body lift.. thus getting to the bolt you have cut sheet metal I think as the holes are in the body vs the frame.

I have the same problem.. it was not rusted.. I actually just cut the bolt head off and left it.. I figure 5 out of 6 bolts would hold the skid plate.. But in your case it may be different.

That's a very common problem. The weld nut breaks off from the frame inside the frame.

One option is to cut a big hole on the side of the frame to get to it - as somebody suggested. After putting in another weldnut then you weld up the hole you made. It's a big PITA and it weakens the frame at that spot.

My above suggestion of sneaking another bolt in is easy and won't weaken anything.

But - it's your choice to ignore it, do it the hard or easy way.
