Blend Door?? Can' t find the answers...

So I have done many searches about my issue and have found some answers but not all..

So my 99 Tj does not seem to blow as hot as it should...

-have done a coolant flush and heater core flush
- operating temp raises as it should
- seems to blow hotter through the "face" vents than floor or defroster
- does not seem to be as hot as it should.
- ac not as cold as it should be (today it was 12 outside when I tested)

Questions about the blend door...
-Could this be my problem?
-in a 99 TJ is the blend door motor driven? I have read that the 97 and 98 was cable driven --what about the 99?
- should I hear the blend door open and close as I switch from hot to cold?
- can I manually manipulate the blend door?
- any other suggestions?

Thanks!!!

98+ are motor driven.
and you should feel temperature differences as you switching between cold and warm.

Yes I know there should be a temp difference. I want to know if I should hear it open and close. I think the temps are a little bit off.

you probably wont hear it open or close. you probably could take the motor out see if its working.

Get a cooking thermometer or something similar and check the actual heat output so you have some frame of reference.

The FSM for year 2000 says minimum heat output on high at the floor vent should be 144 degrees at 60 degree ambient air temp.

Once you figure out where you stand, you might be able to see what helps, rather than just a "seat of the pants" analysis.

Also, if you look at the blend door actuator (under dash on passenger side) you can actually see the motor turning while you manipulate the heat control. If this works, it could still be some type of linkage inside that is malfunctioning, but at least it gets you one step further.

Good luck!
