Blower / fan (ac-heater)

05 wrangler - the fan only blows on 3 & 4 - stops 1 and 2 is like its off - wondering if it is the actual switch or is it the lower? Any ideas on trouble shooting this??

The fix is most likely the blower motor resistor. If that doesn't fix it, try a new switch. Thats how I fixed mine

note that the "resistor" is actually 3 resistors combined into the 1 unit, giving u the first 3 speed selections. any combination of those 3 can fail, & the others still function. look behind the glovebox, & the r-unit is slightly recessed into the heater housing. i'd about bet that u could meter each resister to confirm fault 1ce u remove...

Use a multi meter and test the resistance

Blower motor resistor was $21 today at local dealer. One was not in stock but I will have one in my hands tomorrow.

just for shitz and giggles on another not so related but common issue... the multi function stalk is $80 but it takes a lot of effort to replace one of those. I think I am going the rewire route with the Fog lamps...

Can you further describe the area and what it looks like?

Don't have one in hand but looking for it so I will know where to go when mine comes in tomorrow.

First of all... let me say... what a pain in the ass to get to the top screw. The bottom aint a lot better.

When you take the glove box off you will see this big green plug. The Blower Resistor is right below it and the big flat fan thing is actually IN the air box through a slit. You will be able to read the writing though as its turned up.

See here is the general location... See the big green plug?

This is it up closer...

You will remove the two screws. Thank god they are not threaded. They are self taping sorts of screws. You will get the top one from the top with some patience and a knuckle (or a flexible shaft extension if you have one) on the end of a 1/4" driver and I think its a 9mm screw head. And the bottom one can be accessed with a ratcheting wrench. Then you have to work it out of there and then get the plug undone. It has one catch on one side. Pretty idiot proof to reinstall. Just be patient as there are many things in the way and the space is real tight.

But... it works. I now have all four speeds. My switch has a bit of a dead spot on highest setting anyway but it works most times.

How do you unclip the wire harness from the resistor?

sometimes the contacts just get all crapped up. after replacing my evap coil my blower would only work on one or two speeds. i pulled it out and checked continuity and had it across each contact. when i pushed back in it scuffed up the contact just enough to get three speeds working. so i pulled it again and scrapped them up real good to have a nice clean contact. works like a charm now. try this first and it might save a few bucks

I finally got the red locking clip off. Had to pry it with a wide blade screw driver and it almost broke getting it to slide off. Easy after that.
I recommend taking the right front speaker off so you can see the top bolt better. pop the green plug off it's mount then take the black plug next to it off it's mount so you can get at the top bolt. Good vids on utoob
