Breaking in a new TJ

Hey guys, my TJ's now got around 650 miles on it and I have to say I'm lovin' my new rig. I was just curious if you guys had any suggestions for proper break in on the first 1000+ miles. Thanks.

I'm not sure but I would always try to take it easy for the first few thousand miles or so.

Find the biggest rock and...

no...I second that. Just take it easy for a grand or so on revs and any off roading etc.

Don't fell scared to take it off road. Just remember to take it easy. I think the better you treat a new jeep the longer it will last.

Modern vehicles no longer have break-in periods like they did when I was young, go for it.

Not..exactly true. The rings still have to seat and so on... Check your owners manual. There should be a break-in section in it. Mine (2004 TJ) said to take it easy for the first 1000 miles with breif full throttle acceleration from time to time. Like if your running down the road in 5th just lay it to the floor, but remeber to keep it within the limits of the law.

Bigjeep, its this real nice place to gp wheeling not too extreme. I guess its about 10 miles away from my house. I go up there when im not in the mood to drive 2 hours to mojave or bigbear to wheel.

Mine has 750 miles now...purchased in August

Mix a little highway driving, city driving, highway driving again

Take on a "curb" or two...gotta throw a little flexing in the mix

Hey SportsGal, I'm in NYC as well, so the pot holes have been giving me enough flex lately. But its great not having to worry about them.

On most new vehicles the manufacturer recommends that for the first 750 miles you vary the speed on it. In other words don't get it out on the highway and set the cruise at 75 mph and drive for 4 hours. If you were to do so at least slow down to 55 for 20 miles, then back up to 75 etc. City driving is best for breaking in a new vehicle.

Oh...wait til it snows...ya wanna talk about potholes

We will feel like we're off-roading every time you slowly
emerge in and out of one.Potholes in NYC tend to resemble
moon crates within a weeks time.
