Question Bringing a hardtop back to life???

I have a tan hardtop on my '02 Sahara that has seen many days in the sun and is faded pretty badly.

Anyone have a suggestion of a product or method to bring back the color?

Thanks!

I have the same problem on my '99 TJ, and it drives me nuts when I have to put it on for the Winter. My Hard Top is Tan as well. It has practically faded into OBLIVION!! Can't wait to take it off. Sounds like it might be a great Winter Project!! You get an answer...give me a shout...Thanks!!

I'll let you know what i find out. Mine is kind of chalky. I thought about trying a wax or light rubbing compound, but I don't want to do something that is going to make it look worse.

I'm really hoping someone else knows what to do.

My top was Tan as well, very faded. I painted it inside and out black and I love it.
I was going back and forth between Krylon Fusion and Rustoleum Universal, I am very pleased with the results so far with the Rustoleum. You cannot tell it is spray painted either. Can be done in 1 day.

Materials Used:
5 Cans of Rustoleum Universal Satin Black (2 for inside top)
Scotch Brite Pads
3M Adhesive Remover
Duplicolor Adhesion Promoter
Painters Tape

I used the 3M adhesion remover to wipe the wax, clean, ect. Then used the scotch brite pads to scuff it up. The the 3M remover again to clean it. Wipes it down. I then used the Adhesion promoter, sprayed entire top. Then a few thin coats of the black spray paint.

Here are some pics... Any questions let me know.

I bought my 01 TJ with a tan hardtop about 4 months ago. It had obviously suffered several seasons in the hot Vegas sun and was pretty faded and chalky as well. I ended up using Meguire's Cleaner Wax and some elbow grease, and in about 2 hours time it was shining like brand new. I like the black paint idea as well, and will probably eventually go that route, but in the mean time I am not embarrassed to run around with my top on.

Awesome! I'm going to give it a try as soon as I can. I just bought the Jeep and it's not a daily driver so I am thinking of selling the hardtop to get money for other mods. I just don't think too many people will want it the way it looks right now.
