I broke the shaft in half on a 5100. Flexed the jeep out to check clearance of new rimes. The rear driver was stuffed, when I put the jeep in reverse the shaft snapped on the rear passenger. I still have my foot on the brake pedal. The jeep just settled a little when put on reverse.

My front sway bars were still connected so all of the flex came from the rear.

Jeep has 3.5 springs and a tnt long arm. shocks are about a month old. This was the first time they had been tested like this. Could it be bad shock geometry? Just a defect in the shock? I'm worried about it now I'm headed to a big trip tomorrow with the jeep. I found some old used ones from a friend that I'm going to run for the trip.

Did the shock hit your spring perch when the axle was articulated like that? There is a chance it was just a defective shock but I'm wondering if there was a clearance issue somewhere that wasn't found until this test. Good luck getting it back together!
