Lightbulb Broken clutch plate

I recently just bought a 2000 Jeep Wrangler Sport from my uncle that had 113,000 miles on it and still in perfect condition. He just replaced the clutch last year and oddly enough he got it from Advance Auto Parts.

Long story short, the clutch plate had broke and one of the springs had popped out causing my Jeep to die on me around the corner from my house. So on Saturday my uncle and I spent all day tearing the transmission apart and rebuilding it with a new clutch plate in! Hopefully this one will last longer than a year! (and it was bought from O'reillys not Advance!!!)

And for any others regarding symptoms, I couldn't put it into any gears what so ever and my clutch went from soft to very difficult to push down. Noticed on some threads that it might be the clutch plate sticking and something is wrong with the slave cylinder, however that was not the case for mine. Either way you would need to open up your transmission to see if the clutch plate is sticking, but also look to see if maybe one of the springs popped out.

Just glad its all good and working now!

Glad you got it fixed. I replaced mine a few weeks ago after less than one year. The one I had put in (acdelco) was junk.
BTW you are taking the transmission out to replace the clutch...not taking it apart.
Have fun.

yes you are very right! Thank you for pointing that out. It was quite the learning experience I must say as well. Never really have been under a Jeep, nor any vehicle. But I will be learning a lot with mine, for certain.

I worked cars in high school in the late 60's when they were easy and fun to work on. I had 2 CJ's and a couple of early Blazers but wanted my sons to be able to wrench on their own. They're married with kids but we all have Jeeps and Live to take on things out of the comfort zone. Last month we rebuilt a dana 300 and changed it to a 4:1 ratio. My son took a picture of it in pieces and we both wondered if it would ever go back. It did and the next week we did my clutch and rebuilt my np231 and upgraded it to 231hd. Get out of your comfort zone and into the jeep zone.
