Broken tj shock mount bolts

Just put my lift on my jeep today and snapped 3 of the 4 rear shock mount bolt. Just a little FYI I had to lift the body of the frame about 6 inches then cut the old nuts of, drill the bolts out. Went up to my local Ace and got grade 8 hardware, worked like a charm! Hope this helps anyone with this problem!

Did you even try an EZout?

Didn't even bother, as I see it that would have taken more time and I trust my grade 8 over the weak stuff from the factory. All I had to do is support the body and lower the rear of the frame, took about 5 mins a side.

EZout are not even close to working! The shock mount bolts are a bastard, the bolt metal is hard as a rock. I broke say 10 bits before removing one stripped head. Plus the location is a bear.

What were some clearance issues when you lifted the sides? I need to get in there myself and have not done this yet.

I had soaked all four upper rear bolts for 3 weeks with penetrating oil. Still snapped off all four.

I ended up using my dremel to cut most of the puny tack weld on the nuts and then my air hammer to pop them off. Went up through the small opening where the top of the shock fits. I don't have a body lift and didn't feel like loosening body mounts.

Replaced it all with grade 8 hardware and all has been well since.
