Budget Boost

I know that I have been all over the place with this lift thing, and I apologize for that. When you do a BB can you get away with just the spacers, say the ones from Tera Flex, and that is it? Do I need to worry about shocks, MML, the transfer case, or anything else? If I can, will this accomodate a set of 31 inch tires? Will it accomodate a set of 32" tires. Is there anything else I should know about this? This would only be for looks, I do not do much if any off roading. Thanks again, Scooby

You will need shocks. And you should be able to fit 32's cuz I had 31's on my stock jeep.
bb is good for short term lift but you will want to go bigger!!!

I just did spacers but the stock shocks limit my flex a bit.

....that's probably a good thing since I'm all up in my fenders as is on 31s. (did not extend bump stops)

im in the same boat. i want to get a nice full bb kit because i dont want to be too high and/or worry about angle problems or having to relocate anything. this is my dd and more often than not its on the highway or running around town, and usually i have my kids in the back so i dont need anything crazy lifted...just enough to fit some 31-32s. go through some mud and get my girls to laugh.

I'm new here so forgive my simpleness....

I run 31-10.50''s on my stock 98 TJ. I have them on steel rims with an offset. I previously had 31/12.50 Thornbirds on it as well. There was absolutly NO rub. Is that what we are talking about here???? I have people ask me all the time if I have a lift on it....they always say how nice it looks. I gree with them too....it stands strong but does not look or feel tippy. Just ignore me if i am talking about the wrong thing Kev....

wow i have read this a lot

you can use spacers
you should get new shocks
you may need to drop the tcase skid plate
yes you can run 31's or 32's.

x2

longer shocks will increase axle travel a tad, and also will keep you from over extending your stock shocks.. and could even give you a nicer ride if you get nice shocks

the tc drop can be dealt with by doing a 1.25'' bl with 1'' mml if you dont want to lose ground clearance from your skidplate.. then you can run 33s with a 2'' bb and the bl..

but if you dont do the bl and mml, then you might need to add a couple of washers to your skidplate to do the tc drop, you dont have to buy a whole $50 kit

i got my jeep from the dealer with 31s on it, so lifting a stock jeep with a 2'' bb to put on 31s doesnt make since to me, unless you just want the extra clearance to offroad.. i ran 31x10.5s on stock rims and never got into my fenders, and never rubbed, except doing a really tight u-turn and i loved wheeling with it.. wish i still had a stock jeep =/

I think what you have will be my plan of attack. I just put on a set of Soft 8's and they have some additional backspacing, these are mounted on my stock 30's because these tires still have alot of life left in them. When it comes tire time I think that I will install a set of 31's and call it good. Scooby

Ya, I am kind of in the same boat. I ultimatly want to stop at 33s, but Im not even close to affording tires, rims, lift etc etc. The 31s I have just barley cut it on the farm last summer. I think I may just do the same as you scooby. Run a BB, longer shocks, and some 32" BFGs, unless I can find a good tire in mud, that acts like an AT on the street.

yea sorry i meant 32-33's. so a good brand name 2" budget boost, a 1-2" body lift, and a 1" motor mount lift. just trying to get all my prices right. it would be shipping to apo so im trying to find deals that ship here. then, i need new tires after that (i want some good mud/at, also mine are balding) so all in all if i have about $2000 for parts and shipping you think i should be in the green?
