Building a front bumper

I'm going to have a front stinger bumper made by someone local to me. I was thinking of a bumper width of 51" with tapered ends. does that sound good, are there advantages to having a bumper with a shorter or wider width, than that? These are the bumper styles I like. (The one I'm having built will have bracing for the stinger)

I'd think with the wider bumper it would help protect the fenders more and with a shorter bumper it would be better for crawling as it opens up more room for the tire to get on obstacles without hitting the bumper first.
