Bumbers and lights

Hello all, I have a 99 sport that is 100% stock (sad I know) after 5 years of ownership I think its time for some upgrades. I would like to add new bumpers front and rear. I like the looks of the tube ones. The problem is I dont know what one to buy? Any better than another? Also, are the easy to install? I cant see them being to had to put on.

Secondly, I NEED new lights. Both head and fog. I would like both to be better than stock. What would you all recomend? As far as the fogs go. I want them to be legal to use on the road and to have a cover to them so they dont get taken out like my first ones did years ago. I am horrable with wires so installing these lights might be a problem. Anyway let me knopw what you all think.

Thanks for your time

Mike R in Connecticut

I can't comment on tube bumpers, however on the headlights, there are several choices available, that replace the sealed units with a replacable bulbs style (they produce more light). check out www.quadratec.com for a few options.

On Fogs, Hella, KC, IPF are all fantastic brands. there are others as well. your budget will be the limiting factor there. If your jeep have OEM fogs, you can get a set of KC's that are sold by quadratec specifically for this, they attach to the OEM wiring...that way you can't mess it up if you're not confident with wiring.

I have looked in quadratec, but there are so many. Sylvania has a few headlights that look good. The Halogen silverstar, Cool Blue, Xtravision all are affrodable. The most expensive one is the Sliver star at $30 each.

don't forget that the housing to your jeep headlights are sealed. so you need an entire new headlight before you buy bulbs like silverstars. about $40 each.

i'd proabably go with IPF imo. everyone who has them seems to love them. search 4x4xplor.com the page has plenty of mods with all the info you need on how to do it. the mod was on his 98tj i believe. has pics too.

for headlights, i ran the sealed beam silverstar, i never had a problem not being able to see, even in 2 in the morning with a heavy cloud cover. on the tj i have the cool blues, not as bright as the silverstars, but i can still see really well. they were out of the sylverstars when i went in to buy them so i just grabbed the cool blues. i like them both. just run down to your local O'reilly's or other McPart store and pick up a set. the easiest way to get way better than stock lights and still save some cash.

I went with the IPF housings and X4 bulb combo and they are amazing. If you want I will be at the rally and you can take a look. I may also have some bumpers for you but we can talk at the Rally.

i have this front bumper and all i can say is wow i got it for like 213 brand new SRC Front Grille Guard Bumper by Smittybilt and Other Jeep Parts and Jeep Accessories by 4 Wheel Drive Hardware

for the back i got this one for about 140 with the d-rings
SRC Classic Rock Crawler Rear Bumper with 2" receiver and D-rings by Smittybilt and Other Jeep Parts and Jeep Accessories by 4 Wheel Drive Hardware

on the front bumper i have two kc 130watt long range driving lights and then i put two kc 130 watt clear fog/driving lights down inside the bumper

the front bumper already took on a few cedar trees and some flying garbage out of a dump truck going 70 and it held up better then i could ask for and the price makes it all the better. to put it on its just as simple as removing the old bumper and putting the new ones on. i have pic on my facebook

tjsport98, I have been told KC lights are high on list as far as lights. I will look at a few kits from them.

I have the same bumper that goose has. It's naked right now, just put it on last weekend. It was entirely too simple to put on. Removed the 6 bolts that held the factory bumper on. 2 on top, 1 on bottom per side. Slid the factory bumper off, slid the new one on. This particular bumper uses 4 bolts to hold it on. 1 on top, 1 on bottom per side. I put the other 2 bolts back in the holes on top so I wouldn't loose them. I also left the ?sway bar? cover in place. I had taken it off just to see how it looked, but it didn't look good, at least until I get a winch. The bumper has 4 tabs for lights, two on the top most bar and two beneath the headlight area. A T55 socket and a ratchet is all you need.
