Burning smell

I'm driving ATM - long distance n my baby smells like a burning water smell n there's alot of gear coming out of her... All gauges say normal, she is loaded upto the max - not sure if that has anything to do with it.... Help? She also using fuel quicker than normal....

Any idea ?

When you say a lot of gear coming out of her do you mean gear oil?

You said your gauges are okay, did you check you radiator bottle before you left? Is there any mud on the front of your radiator from your mudding trips?

You said your gauges are okay, and you said you are loaded to the max. You wouldn't be driving as fast as you can would you? Maybe slow down a bit and let the girl catch her breath. I know when I moved to Moab mine was loaded to the max and I could feel a lot of heat in the floors of mine also.

Good luck LeiSh, take it slow and easy and watch your gauges. I really don't know what else to tell you from over here.

leish, can you tell what kind of burning smell it is? ex: burning coolant smells very different then burning oil. burning coolant has a bit of an odd smell to it, while burning oil just smells like something burning. not sure how to better describe it, but you will know by the smell.

Where you live that 4cyl, would most likely be more than enough.

Leish, i had another thought. before you left, did you top off your fluids? if so, could something have spilled and is now in an area that has heated up, and is burning it off?

I got another idea maybe a hose is slowly leaking coolant or something? My yj gets hot at idle. If I go faster it cools the radiator better. But she's a yj haha.

Hey hey guys!!!
I made it to brisbane last night, stayed with a friend and my phone was nearly dead hence why I didn't reply, it's on charge now.

As for the burning smell I still got no idea and I also noticed a rattling noise under her when I go over bumps... Aghh I think she is just hating being packed with my crap n driving. She was ok when I took her off cruise control n kept the revs low- she musta just been hating high speed n revs lol!

She's going to the jeep doctor when I get home to Melbourne n having a service! She's due!

I'll try keep ya all posted bout my trip driving home. xxx

LeiSh if it makes you feel any better, I have an 06. When running highway speeds, if I use cruise control it tends to let the speed drop about 5 mph below the set speed and kicks in the passing gear a lot. Besides the whiplash, he tends to get really hot. I have finally quit using it unless I am on a really flat patch of highway for that reason. Like yours, it doesn't show any change in the guages, but you can feel and smell the heat.

Yeahhh Julie!! That must be what it is cos as soon as I took it off she ran so much better!! Hrmm good but at the same time I can't be bothered driving when on highways lol - slack...
Yer I guess unless it's flat road I won't be using cruise control... :/
