Many jeeps that I see, look VERY clean, but have high mileage, I mean they're right around the right amount of mileage for the year, but buying something with 150k-200k miles scares me... BUT the ones I have been looking at, are clean.. Seats hardly worn, no excessive wear on anything, look almost brand new (to a point).
What's your guy's thoughts on buying one with that many miles? I might just give in and buy one, as many of them are priced lower than what i'm looking at, but just as nice, if not nicer.
I just bought mine from a friend at work and it has 206k. It needed the basic stuff afar as wear and tear but it was clean and the price couldn't be beat. As long as there is no rust on the frame or tub grab it. I feel like your better off getting it for super cheap and if something goes bad then you have the chance to do some nice upgrades. It will bring you closer to your Jeep.

I think it depends...the one i just traded for had 163k, higher than i wanted originally, but much of the stuff that would wear out at that mileage was already replaced, brakes, exhaust, motor rebuilt, suspension, tires etc.
My previous TJ had 191K miles on it the last time I saw it & its drivetrain was in excellent running condition, I would have trusted it in the remotest locations. Then again, I bought it new and it had been well taken care of with regular changes of all its lubrication. So while those mileages you mention don't necessarily scare me, I would attempt to verify how well maintained they were. The most likely vehicles will have good owner maintenance records.

Along the lines of what Jerry said ,I think if the owner took the time to keep records of what maint they did on the vehicle he/she prob took care of it & it will prob be fine. Double & triple check the frame!!
I'll have one of my good buddies, who's HUGE into jeeps, knows A LOT about them, take a look at any I look at. Sounds like these are pretty rock solid Vehicles.
Just to show you guys an example, it looks fairly clean, I called and they said they are asking $7900 with just a little over 200k miles. It's a little bit more money for that many miles (that i've seen), but you get the idea, I can get a jeep here that's just as clean, if not more, maybe not as beefy looking, but for about 5 to 7 grand
I shopped the PDX market for about 6 months before I bought my '99 with 148,000 miles. There are several still on the market that I can promise you are absolute DOGS! Just don't buy from a used lot around here in haste! Good luck and happy hunting.
For some, it is easier to kill the light inside of themselves than it is to fight the darkness all around them.
All that glitters is not gold. Just because it looks great does not necessarily mean that engine compression is good, valve seals are doing their job, block is not internally cracked, tranny is in good shape, lockers and seals are 100%, etc. Also, are you talking about 150,000 miles cruising effortlessly on the Interstate at 60 mph, or that kind of mileage up and down rocks, across streams, and playing in salt water on the beach at 4 mph.
In the end, you want want someone who knows Jeeps doing a thorough inspection and report out on the "internals", that you can't see.
All that being said, its not how many miles are on it, its how many miles are left.

Got my '04 4 banger about 3 years ago for 10k with 27k on the clock completely stock if that gives you any idea on the price. The worst thing about it were his dogs; 3 years later and I'm still finding dog hair!
