Buying my first TJ. Need help please.

Hey everyone, I'm about to purchase an 04 TJ with 122000 miles. This TJ is in real good condition, it has brand new 32 inch tires runs a little but can fix that. I just want to know what I should look for before making the purchase.

Make sure you look for a deeper wallet. Definitely try out the 4wd.

Meant to say tires rub a little. Everything else seems to be in great condition. I'm getting it for 12800 financed at 3.4 percent interest. I feel it's a good deal according to kbb and nada.

That is a high price. Find one privately and get a bank loan. You will get a better deal plus the PO will know everything about the Jeep you are purchasing.

X2 and at that price you prolly could buy two jeeps (almost). I would offer maybe 8-9k for that jeep. Hell, I paid 6.5k for my 2001 TJ (60th edition) 184K Kilometers with both tops, new wranglers 31" were just installed too prior to purchasing.

Keep looking... be patient and you'll find your jeep young jedi!

I figured it was a good deal since every other one I find has a salvaged title and the ones with low mileage are sold by the time I make the call. I need one before school starts and I was just being careful not to rush into a POS.

I won't voice my opinion on the price because I haven't looked in your area...around here that would be the ASKING price, but most are not in that good of shape (from the pics) and what I see here. It might be a "fair price" for your market.

However always ahead to be buy from private seller, most won't want to wait for financing though.

Good points I see, are it is stock, so probably not been wheeled. Bad thing I see is the faded flares, and milk jugs...if PO couldn't take a minute to "dress" the flares and milk jugs how good of care did they take care of it?

If it has Dana 44, and is really clean inside, and can get the matching spare and a 1.25"BL included ...IMO it would be a fair deal.

Make the call on the lower mileage ones sooner. This price is sky high. Do some shopping you won't regret it.

an inch and a half Body Lift...that would PROBABLY (emphasis on that probably) solve rubbing issue and give you a little room off road, other helpfull thing might be a washer or 2 on the steering ends if it is rubbing on the (lock to lock)

oops he beat me I type too slow...that would make it okay to start off road.
With those 32"s

If you like it, that's what matters most.
I would be looking underneath, smashed oil pan, smashed control arm brackets, fresh welds on the shock mounts, scrapes and dents on the skid plate. That stuff tells you how it was treated.

What would sway me is if it has a 4 cylinder, d35 in the rear, rust on the frame and body, visible oil leaks, torn seats, ...

It's a really clean TJ. I don't think it was ever off road maybe the beach a few time the hardtop looks untouched it used to have little original tires the big tires came after the dealer bought it . It has an I6 with an auto tranny. Skid plates are spotless. Brakes are like new.

Columbia editions have charcoal-painted flares; those in the pic are not faded but painted that color.

The Columbia's I've seen usually also have a D35 rear, less desirable than the optional D44. You can verify with a quick glance underneath... is the rear differential cover an oval? If so, D35.

I agree with most others, keep looking. Expand your range.

I just picked up an 03 Sahara in damn near mint condition with 42,000 miles for $12,500.

In my opinion, if you're happy with it and think it's worth the price, then it's worth the price. But check it out, inside and out, before you jump on it.

Couldn't quite tell from the pics, but are those Coopers in a 32x11.5 15 size?

I have a Columbia Edition too, and due to price and cosmetics I'd like to retain the factory wheels if possible, was trying to decide how large I can go tire size, feared that 15x7 might not be enough rim for an 11.5 width tire.

Currently running a 2'' BB rear / V8 Cherokee front spring, might be doing a BL in the future in preparation for a TT.
