Buying rubicon jeep discussion

Ok so I own an 06 4 banger tj manual 6 speed, and my fiancé is looking to buy a jeep wrangler rubicon. ( couse she wants to out do me :-P) It's going to be a dd, so won't be overly lifted. I don't know too much about the rubi's though, and was curious the differences between a rubi tj vs rubi jk, and what are things to look for when buying one, common wear and tear to look for, also any input on buying experience. Price range? Hopefully you rubi owners out there can help! Thanks

Rubi TJ: I-6 engine, air lockers, 16" wheels, 31" tires

Rubi JK: V6 engine, I believe elec lockers, elec swaybar disconnect, 17" wheels, 32" tires.

When looking to buy any used vehicle, especially a Jeep, crawl around under it to get an idea if it been abused or how much offroad it looks like it has been. Also while crawling around under there check the oil pan to make sure no leaks especially the rear main seal area of oil pan. Also check the rear output shaft of the t-case to see if it has ever leaked as well.

Common wear & tear I would say are the axle U-joints and Driveshaft U-joints and then the next ones would be Hub Assembly depending on tire size thats on the Jeep.

As for price range, check KBB to give you an idea.

first thing i would do is ask her if she really wants to pay the extra for a rubicon when it's going to be a daily driver. is she really going to use it for it's intended purpose or does she just want it for looks/wow factor?
the jk sport is a very capable vehicle and it will suit daily driving better IMHO.

but as said, get under it an check everything out. look for rust, caked mud, dents. pop the hood and check around for mud hiding in the nook and crannies. this will give you a good indication of if it's been run hard or not.

i would let her buy the rubicon of her choice, then slowely figure out a way to swap jeeps with her, relationships are all about give and TAKE.

I picked up a 06 LJ rubicon after my 02 TJ was stolen. These are the best features for sure!
Lockers!! They make such a huge difference it was unbelievable!
4:1 T case instead of the 2.7:1
D44 axles front and back

Mine also came with the 6 speed and i really like it much better than the 5 speed. The JKs are real nice, and i was inches away from buying a brand new JK. I liked the 06 unlimiteds extra room, but a 4door long monster was not an option. I also saved over 10K off the price of a new one. The new ones have the electronic disconnect sway bar, seems pretty cool, but mine take a minute and i have to stop to air down anyway.
