Buying this Jeep

Hey folks I haven't had the chance to introduce myself yet, will do so soon. I"m about to check out a 98 Wrangler Sport in a few hours. I'm wondering if you could give any feedback and opinions on this particular Jeep. Here is the description from craigslist.

"1998 Jeep Wrangler
SE Sport Utility 4WD

Jeep Wrangler is in good condition with clean title and only 75K miles. Clean interior and clean exterior with typical minor paint blemishes over time. Includes after market hardtop, which can be disconnected.
Kelly Blue Book prices at:
Good condition: $7,930.00
Fair condition: $7,205.00
Only ask $6500.00 OBO. Serious buyers only please. "

After I contacted him he mentioned the engine and fuel pump was replaced becasue " the Jeep was stored in the garage and drive-way in 2008 for roughly a year. My Uncle who was owner at the time, was very particular about his vehicles and decided to change engine. It probably would have been fine but he likes to keep his toys new"

I'm wondering what do you think before I head out, anything I should look for? I never had a Wrangler and did little research here and there but don't have all the expertise and knowledge yet. Not sure about the white hard top...

Thanks for any advices!

Looks nice! I would get a Carfax and have a competent mechanic check it out.

i'd be asking questions about the model. it says se in the description which is the 4cyl model. in the pictures it says sport, which are all 4.0l. just something to check on. did they put in the 4.0 when they swapped engines?

it lookes very weird to me with white hard top and faded fenders. i don't really like it but my opinion really doesn't matter on that. i think the top is aftermarket.

Check everything!!

If this was *garage kept* those fenders wouldn't look so faded.

The passenger door doesn't look like it can close properly.
Why is it ajar??

Good Luck!!

I would pass on it........

If it turns out ok the fenders and top can be changed with a simple rattle can.

To be honest I think that the jeep is one of the jeeps that the dealer modified itself. Also I dont believe those fender flares are faded and are made like that. The top and uppers are aftermarket fiberglass. If those flares were faded it would look more like the rear bumper. Just my .02. My jeep was a dealer modified vehicle.

Pass on that one due to them asking to much money for it, for that price you could get a 2000 or newer model in about the same condition. That's about a $5000 Jeep in my opinion.

I just went over the first thread.........see if you can talk the dealer down on that price.

P.S
1997 Jeep Wrangler's came in 3 configurations
SE
Sport
Sahara

The sticker on the side of the Jeep says Sport but you typed from the dealer SE??
Check to see which model this one is..........

Thanks folks for the replies. After reading what everyone said I decided to skip this one, and I'm not too sure about the color scheme either. I will probably put in a little bit more money and buy something a little bit newer. With a budget of $10k, I"m looking for something 1999 and up, under 80k mi. Is that reasonable? Here in Nor Cal it looks like people are asking a lot for their used Wranglers.

I actually love that lapis blue color. One of my favorite colors on a jeep.

So I've been talking to this guy who's selling a 2001 SE. I test drove it, it runs fine, carfax came back good. He's willing to let it go for 10,400. I'm very tempted right now. Should I pull the trigger?
