Call me a moron....

1998 TJ Sport
31" MTR
2.5 OME HD LIFT

I plan on ordering this stuff next week. Tell me I'm a moron if this is not a good plan!!

As my TJ has 3:07 gears I have to change carriers to gear up..so:
Front: DANA 30 Chrome-moly axle upgrade, ARB locker
4:56 ring pinion, install stuff

Rear: Ultimate 35 kit- 30SP Yukon axle, ARB locker, 4:56 ring pinion, install stuff.

Price for parts around $3000
Once I get this all in, I plan on adding some more lift, SYE and CV, 33's then call it good! (ya right)

Sounds like a good list of parts, but I don't know how you are going to like 31's with 4.56 gearing... Going to be WAY low! I guess I am a little puzzled as to why you are doing a relatively expensive lift right now, and then redoing later... If you are going to wheel it this way for more than 2-3 years, then okay, but if you are planning to redo next year, I would just hold off and do it all at once, but it's your money so go for it! All of the parts you mentioned are quality components.

If you have to ask what it is or what it does, you don't need it, and you will need help to install it!

Ok- this will be pretty close to an all at once mod. Have had the OME on for about 3 months and love it. As soon as the driveline stuff is done, I was thinking about just adding 1" Body lift and 1" mm and the 33"s. Does this make more sense?

<Laughing> Yeah, that makes MUCH more sense. I was imagining you driving down the road at redline doing like 40 mph... You will be VERY happy with all of those upgrades together!

I prolly missed it, but, what tranny do you have? I am assuming that since you are running 3:07's that it is a 3spd auto? If so, 4:56's may be a bit low...imho.

MORON! Just kidding I couldn't help it

4.56's are too low for a rig on 31"s that's going to see some street use; I'd go to 4.10's if you must have the lower gearing. Of course if you plan on going to 33"s, 4.56's are a good low set that are 'ideal' up to 35"s. Other than that, all looks good; those 2.5" OME or Rancho kits are great gateway lifts that can be adapted to work extremely well for future use.

You will be just fine with 31s and 4.56 gears.

2345 RPM at 65MPH in 5th gear.

http://www.florida4x4.com/tech/gearcalc.php has a great calculator.

be glad you are going with the arb. I put a detroit in mine and it has been a pain in my a$$. I don't mind the bangs and jerks, but it screwed the synchros in my tranny (nv3550). but all in all, a solid choice of components.
